Maybe Moving to Qatar, Doha / Al Khor

Hi

We may be moving to Qatar in the next couple of months and I was wondering if someone could answer a couple of questions for me?

1. What is the international school like in Al Khor?

2. If we cannot get into the international school what would the next choice be?

3. What are the Villas like, how big / small are they?

4. When moving is it advisable to bring your own furniture?

5. Can woman run in the streets or is exercise better kept in the gyms?

6. Do the gyms provide classes like pilates, yoga, etc?

7. Is there a club where we could bring a speed boat?

8. Can you water ski?

9. What other activities / clubs can we expect to get involved in?

10. What are the beauty salons like (waxing, hair, facials) and are they found in the hotels as well?

11. What does a haircut, wax, facial cost?

12. Is it advisable to have a live in housekeeper?

13. What would a normal monthly budget for a family of 4 be?

   - Food

   - Housekeeper

   - Schooling

   - Medical (here we pay before we get any money back from Medical aid and then it is only a percent of the total amount)

   - Extra mural activities for kids i.e. extra club fees, swimming lessons, etc

   - Both my kids attend Occupational Therapy (can we expect to find that there?)

   - Clothing

   - Do the schools have school uniforms?

   - Fuel for cars

   - Hair x 4

   - wax

   - facial

   - entertainment

not sure what else to consider

14. Is travelling and exploring the area easy to do?  ie no restrictions

15. How strict is life for woman there?

16. If my husband gets a job, would it be easy for me to get one too, or is it similar to the UK where only 1 spouse can work for a certain amount of time and then visas etc are required when the 2nd spouse wants to work?

17. What are the universities like, are they of a high standard?

Sorry I know this is a long list, but it is always good to know what you are getting yourself into.  Some answers would be great in helping to make the decision.

Rachid thanks for this detail, it sounds fantastic and just the kind of information I am looking for.

School sounds fantastic and i am so glad to hear that the clubs have so many facilities, which include things that the kids can enjoy too.

It also sounds like Al-Khor has everything that we could possibly require.

Thanks a mil, I will have a look at Google earth!

Tx have been looking around at a lot of posts, but have only found bits and pieces on specifics, so has been a bit difficult to get answers e.g. club fees have been posted, but it does not say whether it is for a family membership, a yearly membership, and what the club fees include..... ie beach, gym, pool, etc etc... so thanks I will continue to look and see what I can find.

let me tell u, I lived in al-khor community since 1999 when it was still small with a few number of villas, but now its almost as big as al-khor city it self, its by far the largest coumpound in qatar,

the International school is in the community ur kids can study here with no problem till they finish the high school,

you have three diffrent clubs and everything is provided for free, even a mini golf, and for the yoga, u can enter a class for a v small amount of money.

by the way a lot of peaple here practice walking or runnung on the street no problem at all,

for ur villas it depend on witch company u will work for cause in the community there is a part for qatargas, rasgas, dolphin......ect and each one of them has its own villas.

in the community u will find supermarkets, bank, postoffice, ...u can see it from google earth, it doesnt hav the latest update but still...
