HSBC account???
By Redline404 •
If I open an HSBC account in the states before I arrive, will I be able to access the account at local HSBC branches in Qatar with out getting my RP first? I was told that the RP is a requirement for a local bank account. Is this a way of getting around this?
Thx
Despite the adverts, HSBC is NOT a worldwide "local" bank.
We have an HSBC current account in the UK where our wages are paid, so when we arrived we opened an HSBC account here thinking that we'd easily be able to transfer money from the UK account to the Qatar at our convenience.
But this was not the case - it turned out they'd only let us transfer from the UK to Qatar if we were physically present in a UK branch!!! Not much use to us!
Plus here they charge you a monthly fee if you don't have a certain amount of money in your account. And their opening times are rubbish. Needless to say we no longer have an account with them here (or any other bank for that matter).
:-(
Looool. Seriously, I thought it was a joke too, but no joke, it's company orders!
UNB ? You mean QNB QT? Yes stay away from HSBC QT ... honest !!!
QT - Never get involved with HSBC here :(
i'm in this bank also. the service isn't very well here is QT....but to open a new account u need RP...
I faced the same sutuation twice and found it was laying at the central Bank due to a mistake of the name ( They used my short name instead of my long name) that will happen even if you have mistake of a single letter.
my brother in law transfered his wages to European bank last month ............. did not arrive, same happened this month. Both transfers still 'lost'. HSBC say they sent it, he should speak to receiving bank. Receiving bank say they did not receive it, he should speak to HSBC. HSBC asked him "what can we do" ........... can you believe that response???? Now he stuck in the middle .. and no money!!!
I came over in February this year and opened a check account while my RP was under process. HSBC also offered me two credit cards, which I could use before I received my first paycheck. They even sent me an SMS later to remind me to bring in my RP once I have obtained it.
Mostly my experience with HSBC was good
Too bad! I was quite fond of HSBC in the England. It's a shame it's not the same in Qatar!
people tend to think that HSBC is the same bank all over the world. This is an ILLUSION. An HSBC account in Qatar is not the same as one in England. It's just the same name and organisation but not the same system. If you're coming to Qatar, join QNB and get a Qmiles Master card. ___________________________ Click here for LOADS of Qatar info I♥Q <-- (Expat and Local Info)
u can open a savings account and have your salary transferred there without an RP in HSBC qatar. but your sponsor shall give u a letter saying that your RP is under process. checking account can only be opened once u get your RP.
Yep

No human can stop racism.
You can open an account even though you do not actually have your RP in hand provided you obtain a letter from your company stating that your RP is in process.
Get this letter and go into any bank - IBQ, CBQ and they should open an account. The RP process takes from a 1 week to couple of months (in some cases) so it is imperative you get a local bank account opened.
You will, in my opinion, incur HSBC charges for withdrawal Qatari Riyals from your US account from the local HSBC ATM's
Definitely you are to open an account in any bank here in qatar to get your salary transferred into. By my knowledge, Qatar National Bank is the only one where you may open an account without having RP.
"other banks are not much better either".... but at least you can give them a credit as they are relatively new.. they are still working on improvement..but no excuse for HSBC..lol...

QS... me too. Not too fond with HSBC since i still in Indonesia. But our Doha Bank is not that brilliant either. What choice do u have over here though?
i definitely meant "any bank in Qatar", including HSBC of course...
i personally don't like them.. i don't like them since still being in Canada...

QS ... you said that you have to transferred your salary to a Qatari Bank, i was thinking that you were referring like Doha Bank, QNB all those banks. Not foreign bank like HSBC.
My brother in law have major problem with HSBC at the moment, he never receive his wages in the other end after over 2 weeks from the date of transfer. God knows where the money went ....
it doesn't contradict to what I have said... unless you mean that his company transfers his salary STRAIGHT to his bank account in Spain?
I don't think so. I think, first he gets his salary in HSBC bank in qatar, and then he transfers it to spain.. right?

qatarisun ... my brother inlaw have a HSBC account in Qatar, and he transffered his wages monthly to Spain.
which bank account you are holder of…why only HSBC? you can always withdraw money from your account in ANY bank, within your limit, anywhere in the world where the bank machines are available…
but in Qatar you will never get your salary transferred to this account. In order to transfer your salary you have to open a QATARI account in one of the Qatari banks… and then you can make funds transfers to your USA bank account…
am i right, DaRush??
