I was Surprised to read this in wikiHow. I didn't know there was such thing as "How to Practice Changing Room Etiquette for Men"
Yes, believe it or not there is a certain "Code" men should follow when out in public, but in a changing room? Of course! Don't worry though, this explains it all.
Steps
- The first rule is that you should never stare. Imagine you are trying to change and a strange man you don't know is staring at you. It would probably make you feel uncomfortable, so don't do it.
- Next, you should wear certain clothes. You don't have to, but it's recommended. For a top, anything is alright as long as you are wearing one when you walk in. For footwear, you want to be wearing sneakers unless you just came from a meeting and are wearing nice shoes. You really shouldn't wear sandals/flip-flops. For bottoms, anything goes, but try not to go too short. Shorts that reach your knees are always best, but pants will do. Underwear doesn't really matter, but you probably should wear either boxer shorts, boxer briefs, or briefs.
- Find a place you want to change. Don't get too close to anyone, for both personal space and hygiene reasons.
- Find a decent locker, preferably one not on the very end. People do steal clothes, so try to not wear your nicest when heading to the pool or gym.
- There really is no order in which to undress, but as a general rule don't have all your clothes off at one time. If really clueless try this: To start, take off your footwear. Then, take off your shirt and throw it on the ground. Put on your gym top. Next, take off your pants or shorts. After that, take off your underwear. Then, put on your pants and change socks last.
- After you get back in, you should always shower. It looks kind of gross if you are all sweaty and then just throw on your clothes to go home in. If a friend is with you, it might be alright because you can say you'll be showering at home.
- You should not worry too much about your physical appearance. You don't need to shave any body hair. You are just going to the gym. Naturally, all men have hair under their arms, on their legs, and in and around their pubic area, and a lot have chest hair.
- You don't need to be in any specific shape to go to a gym. You can have a big beer belly hanging out, but you are going to work out, so people will figure you are working on it.
Warnings
- Never shave in the locker room.
- Don't stay naked too long.
- Never work out in the locker room.
- Try your hardest not to get an erection. You generally can't help it, but you don't want one or else people may get offended and very mad. Think about something you find unappealing and stick to it.
- Don't stare at other guys when they are nude, it is ok to be naked in a changing room but it will cause great discomfort
All this time I have been doing it wrong.
But I have never provided my own towel rail in the locker room though.
Call me Maninibat!
As long as there is a sock on!

The mens changing rooms at the InterCon have a sign asking you to avoid full nudity while changing out of respect for the conservative nature of the country. Is that the case for most changing rooms in conservative countries, or are the InterCon just being ultra cautious about this sort of thing?
And how do they define fully nude? What if you keep one sock on, is that ok? (one sock on your foot that is, before anyone makes some smart-alec remarks!)
Never had this awkward experience here. Normally locker rooms here has a separate room for changing. No one should be looking unless he climbs up your cubicle.
While he's at it, someone should be pulling his pants down and wedgie!!!!!!!!!
Oh, this is just too funny!
I'll be wearing an evil smile next time I go to my gym and I see a guy coming out of the locker room! LOL~
