And the Simaysima fishes sang together: “Hook us baby, one more time”

Greeker
By Greeker

Though the trip was meant to be spent catching fishes and crabs, unfortunately none came our way. I wouldn’t blame them either, coz if it was you, would you get in the way of twenty pairs of QL legs making a stampede through your natural habitat? I wouldn’t, and so felt the fishes, and the crabs, and every other water creature who spared a thought for their lives…

…And thus the QL members BBQ’d, drank coffee and ‘fancy water in fancy bottles’ and made merry. As usual, the trip had QL written all over it. Screaming children, even better screaming parents, chics, hunks, a hummer, several spades (one broken) and crabs running for their dear lives. QL trips are like wine, it just gets better with the passage of time. And so does the people, they just keep getting better as time passes…

And thus, on behalf of the fishes and crabs of Siaysima, I present you… the team that made the fishes sing again… “Hook us baby one more time”!

Darude… a.k.a the jackal. As usual, the better part of planning was done by this guy on a 6’2 frame. He was much more restrained in his driving (no doubt due to prayers of the female folks in the gang), and he was a gentle man. He sympathised with me when I lost my bathroom slippers (with which I had a two-year-old sentimental attachment) to the tide and gave me his brand new leather ones to wear, while he walked barefooted. The ‘tall’ never ceases to amaze me, and he succeeded this time as well.

Xena… was back in the groove after a long time. The original ‘femme fatale’ of the social group, who later handed over the reins to Wolfie, made a triumphant return. Her three doggies jumped at her voice and her whistles. She left me in awe about her dog training skills as I had failed miserably with the one dog I had back home. Three… all hail our very own Xena, the Warrior Princess!

Novita… The official shutterbug of the group, fiercely protective of her camera, second only to Sam, who had a whale of a time digging for gold (and crabs) on the sea shore. Sam, along with Alex (Alexa’s child) was the most enthusiastic of the group, and they made the trip well worth it. So Novita took millions of snaps, some of them candid camera style, and everyone (me included) are waiting with bated breath for the snaps to come out. Novi, when I decide to make a coffee-table book about myself, you shall be my ace lens-women. That’s a promise.

Scarlett… and cookies should go in the same sentence, always. You cook cookies like a dream, has anyone told you that lately, lady? Oh my god, it just keeps getting better. If my mom ever questions me about how I got so fat, I swear, I am gonna call you and give the phone to her. We also got our very own ‘Crocodile Dundee’ today, only thing, this time, it’s a female, and her name is “Crab ***y”.

Mr Paul and Ms Azzi… star couple of the day who had stars in their eyes. Those two were sometimes lost in each other’s eyes. Azzi was the perfect ‘calm and composed’ foil for Mr. Paul’s ‘million-a-minute-words’ talking style. It was fun watching them drive, Azzi at the steering wheel, carefully weighing her options – whether to laugh out loud at what Paul had to say or to crash into the car in front of her. Whatever it was, she made the right decision. Lotsa smiles, no crashes, the day saved.

Alexa and her husband and little Alex… Movie star couple. If I referred to them as Antonio Banderas and Salma hayek in an earlier post, my apologies. This time, with Alex around, they looked more like Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and Freddie Boath in ‘The Mummy Returns’. TRIVIA: In the movie, the son of the principal characters Fraser and Rachel is named Alex O Connell. Truth is stranger than fiction. J

Spicemom… would just WOW suffice? A chic in a hummer? Hubba hubba! Anyways, she didn’t have a hummer of an ego, was more the nice lady next door. She was the principal transporter of the gang, bringing in four chairs and a table, Syam and his wife and his kid and there was still room left in that hummer for an army to camp. And she promised me a ride in the hummer (my first ever), but I had to leave earlier than planned. There’s always a next time. But Spicemom, I have your name marked in my diary. Be aware, be very aware. :P

Vegas… He was on a different car this time, the jeep had gone away. There were no racing matches this time with the man who had the thick gold chain around his neck and a thicker gold cross hanging on the thick gold chain. For some reason or the other, he was quieter this time, but whenever he did talk, he send everyone into peels of laughter. A very admirable quality, if I have seen one.

Tea, coffee or me…Chef master, took me as an apprentice under his wings and I promptly singed three sticks of intricately strung together beef cubes. He didn’t get mad at me, he just made me eat them, then and there, without even a glass of water. Well, whoever said that he wasn’t a hard taskmaster? But I learned my lesson well and was able to assist him a bit in keeping up the continuous supply of BBQ going. But I admit, when it comes to BBQ, nobody even compares to our very own Monty, aka TCOM.

Irrysa…Well, she said everything she had to say on her red t-shirt… “girls rule”, and she did. Intensely bubbly and chirpy, she was just pure joy to be around with. She taught me the joys of gently heating a marshmallow above the dying flames of the BBQ grill. And thus, I had the first, second, and third marshmallows of my life. It was so yum that I added a choc on top of it for good measure. Yum yum.

Jauntie… did not have any difficulties in dragging her husband for a QL trip, he volunteered (from what I could gather). If that was indeed the case, things have progressed much from the times of the dhow trip. QL has worked its charm on him, hip hip hurray, all of us. She accidentally bumped into me once and it set her off on a round of Hawaaian dancing. JoanT, what would we have done without you?

Jarreau… had a tough time in being convinced that the gooey beach sand was actually fun to walk on. And once she touched sea water, there was no turning back. She just kept walking on and on and on. I am amazed at the way she connected with people. But then it should be easy for her, especially with all the warmth that she and her wonderful husband throw at everyone around them…

Jilfer… another old friend back in the fold. Told me no less than three times that Darude pushed him into coming. I always knew that the wolf had a nose for selecting the best people for a trip. It was fun having him around, as a mallu partner as well as fellow crab hunter. That we did not catch anything is to be deleted from everyone’s memory. Gotcha my point?

Khanan and the Venezuelan sensation… Long lost brothers for 25 years, they met at the QL meeting, and someone had to point out the similarities in their faces to them. They hugged each other, cried and talked about old times…about how they had similar hair styles (they still do), similar unshaved beard (stylishly shaped in the case of Khanan) and the puppy eyes (which each used to good effect). And thus, they lived happily ever after. Khanan, you came to the trip after reading what I had written earlier. I sincerely hope to god that you weren’t disappointed. I wouldn’t like that.

Kellys heroes… The perfect dad figure around, who had a limitless supply of aromatic, thick, viscous, soul cleansing Turkish coffee, served in little dark brown plastic cups. Just the feeling of the magic liquid burning down ones throat, taking away the pains of the entire day, was enough to make the trip worthwhile. I support Azzi in asking you to open a shop exclusively for that coffee of yours. You ate sitting on a million-dollar idea, my man…

And his daughter… I ain’t sure about the name, but she has the heart of a lioness and the demeanour of a dove. The reasons… She was the only lady who was undaunted when faced with the prospect of climbing a boat which was much taller than her. She needed help to climb in, but hell, she did. And then she rejected offers for help while climbing down and promptly jumped into the water. Earlier, she cheerfully joined in with the BBQ team, the salad team and succeeded in gaining the trust of the kids. Bravo, need I speak more?

Richard… The goatee is gone, but the handsome, warm, smiling face never cease to make me feel confident about whatever situation I am in. Didn’t get to talk much to him, but seeing from the way he was holding court, he had the group wound around his little fingers. A truly admirable man, he remains in my mind.

Canary bird… we missed her the last trip, but she made it a point to come for this one. She almost killed me and I almost killed her, but we parted as friends. I am sorry if is cared the living daylights out of you, but please, it was unintentional. But I would also like to point out that you are a very charming lady and you added much value to the group outing we had today. It just wouldn’t have been the same without you. Please do come for the future trips and I promise I wont give you any more scares…

Adruman… The silent fan of Italian football player Luca Toni. He was mostly silent during the outing, but I could sense a powerful youngster of high intelligence in him. Staying on his own to complete his studies in chemical engineering from Qatar, he is a good man. If the nobel prize came to a Qatari educated boy someday, I wouldn’t say that I was surprised…

Saddavi… He came, he saw, but he never got out of the car. Sigh, if you had, you would have seen the Al Sadd cap on my car and would have understood that I was a Saddavi too, just like you. Anyways, next time, please do come out of the car. I assure you that you wouldn’t regret that decision…

Syam, wife and kid… I have met them on one other occasion and the warmth they exhibited was undiminished. Though Syam had a tough time running after the baby, I am sure that they enjoyed the trip. Who wouldn’t? And mate, we enjoyed having you around as well. Welcome aboard to the QL Family…

I am sure that I have left some people out. But trust me when I say that it was not deliberate. I just cannot remember who else were there. Not because you were insignificant, but because there were too many people, too little time (I had to rush out in between) and because my poor brain is dead right now. I hope that nobody would take offence if they were left out. I swear I will keep a better tab on people the next time around.

Thus, the fishes of Simaysima sang together: “Hook us baby, one more time”… and the QL members lived happily ever after!

Nobody knows how this ruckus started or WHY this was blown out of proportion...but it's creating a RIPPLE EFFECT, if you understand what I'm saying.

You are a sweet guy but try and listen to what DARUDE advised you to do and all will fall into place....

Novi: Great sorted. He declined and you did not push it. So it is sorted. Furthermore Azzi ... you are an old member of social group since Xena ran the group. You should knows the rules. Or do you?

-----> I DO KNOW THE RULES, Novi...but the incident (whatever it is)happened a a long time ago and charan (whatever name he's using right now)is still an active poster and however obnoxious he becomes once in a while, he still can apply for th social group if he desires it.

I think everyone deserves a 2nd chance...but it's STILL the group's administrators who would have the last say and I RESPECT THAT.

Novi: Be friend with anyone you want outside / inside QL ... it is not my concern. What concern me ... you knows he been banned under name Sl, Eng Chong, Charansanitwong or whatever and yet you still advice him to apply to social group ??? Are you allright there dear?

-----> I sense a TINGE OF SARCASM there but I'll let it slide...

I will REITERATE what I STATED in my EARLIER POST : "I happened to bump into Darude at the airport the next night (Thursday) and I asked "D" about it. Darude clarified that he didn't received any subscription request from Charan as he checks for new subscription daily. Da even advised me to tell Charan to go ahead with the subscription."

I did passed the message...and DARUDE comfirmed what I said.

As I was busy doing some office paperworks, I wasn't able to check it till now.

I/we meant well as Charan is also a friend in and outside QL.

Greeker. It was a fabulous day out thanks to the friendliness and generosity of the participants. It was a real good group of people. No doubt that the life and soul of the party was the Venezualan Sensation. My favorite moment remains the sex on the beach episode between Xena and her new lover. Scarlett and I witnessed it first hand. We are the voyeurs of the moment.

Although your thread was full of your usual charm and wit with your generous lyrical words, I am amazed that you forgot Mila. How could you? There she was in her comely white kaftan warming the hearts of pathetic old men with her dazzling smile.

That lucky lucky husband of hers. Does he know how blessed he is? Also, her food was delicious. Lucky lucky guy.

But I can't just go on about Mila. People might think I have a thing for her! All of the ladies were stunning (did you check out Alexa's legs?), the men were engaging and the food was superb. Excellent day out. Well done Wolfman.

You just dont understand. If you want to come to the coffeeshop, none of us can stop you. Its your freedom to do so.

But your freedom to do what you want ends where my freedom to do what i want starts. So as long as you do your business and dont interrupt our business, thats fine. But please, do not create an umpleasent situation by intruding into the QL group's comfort zone. We wouldnt do the same with your confort zone too.

I am sure you would do everything in your power to not adhere to the fair-game rule books. But then, thats your prerogative. But seriously, man, i feel weird that once i thought of you as a nice human being...

Mila and her husband in the green shirt… Mila’s spring rolls started off the attack of the food junkies. And what a start it was… Was it vermicelli inside the spring roll? It was some of the best tasting vermicelli I ever had. Somehow or the other, I identified your avatar with the real you…a much lovable dragon, though, hehe. You were one of the pack who just didn’t know how to say no to a smile. You rocked. Sorry I didn’t get to talk to your husband with the shirt with the colour of my head. And hey, I aint scary. Kindly do not hijack this thread talking about your past life. You know and we know that you invited it upon yourself. No hard feelings mate, but there were too many people around who were not comfortable having you around, me FIRMLY INCLUDED.

I dont form opinions about people very soon, coz in my line of work, that can be disastrous. I gave myself lots of chances not to feel about you the way i do. Each time, when things smoothen out, you just became more hateful on this forum. I do agree that your new avatar is much toned down, but really, i WILL NOT be comfortable with you around.

I have met you, both online and off it, before I made up my mind. You are the reason why you are where you are now. It was a good decision on your part NOT to come despite Azzi's and Paul's encouragements. You saved yourself and many of us a major embarassment.

Great company...conversation...dining!  So many people to meet and so much meat to eat!  I skipped dinner and only had oatmeal Sat morning.

With what has gone on this week, this QL outing was exactly what I needed.  I needed an afternoon to get away from it all...and meet new (or recently met) people who are not connected with my old life.   Thanks for being there!

Some people who I met "fit" with their QL-personality while others were a welcome surprise.

I brought a table but it looked like there was more than tables when I arrived -- late and without dd.  People many inquired where dd was...thanks for remembering.  dd is still sick...taking her to the hospital after finishing this.

Glad I met and chatted with canarybird, Spicemom (she is a spicey mom LOL), Jauntie, TCOM, Skanky, Geeker, Vegas, Jarreau, Khanan, PreMadonna, DaRude (of course!), CityGal, and others.  It's not out of forgotfulness or lack of concern.  I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to meet Oryx or Owen.

To all and everyone I met yesterday:-

Thank you all for an excelent organised day, and for the good conversation and the jokes and the drive and the food, first time in a long time I left all my recent troubles behind me.

It was very nice to meet all the people with whom I discuss on QL just a great day.

Darude - thank you for bringing us all together again.

Thank you to all the people who organised and cooked and did whatever it took to get everyone motivated. A special thanks to the chief cook and for all the assitant bottle washers it was just great.

Needles to say I have a face like a harvest moon today, as the sun was a great deal stronger than I anticipated so I will have to remain indoors today to help heal it a little.

If this is an small example of what QL can do can you imagine the big picture, it shows just how well a multicultural society can live side by side and imrove life quality for all .
