I am moving to Doha next week. Can anyone advise on a reasonable compound with gym etc and give me a guideline rental price for a two/three bed villa / apartment.
I am a british expat too, I think it depends on what type of lifestyle you are used to in the uk. If you are used to living in London or Manchester then Qatar will be quieter than you are used to. I have been out more since i have been in Qatar than i did in the UK purely because the weather is better,we have more disposable income and you need to throw yourself into things to make friends.
The lifestyle is much more relaxed than the UK except for the mental driving!!
I have not yet moved to Qatar, but if I compared Qatar to Buenos Aires, where I lived for two years, I think I would be very very disappointed. I think I'd better erase BsAs from my memory for now!
I dont think we should mislead him..yes qatar is very boring place..but like the others said, if you make friends and an effort to get out and do stuff, you will be fine. Even if you lived in the most beuaitful place in the world, without family, friends and making an effort to get out there, any place will be boring...
If you are in Al Saad street ... try to get your self in Al Messilah compound. Not exactly next door from Al Saad but it is nice mature compound with alot of mature trees. One of the oldest compound in Doha.
If your budget is apartment ... there is al fardan apartment just behind the land rover showroom that quite nice too.
novita's right the price for a villa in a compound would cost you that much. and before you look for a place, consider the location of your office and if you have kids where's the location fo the school you want them to go. traffic here in doha is getting busier :)
good compound with gym will set you about 20.000 QR and above, you should tell us whereabout your office would be and schooling. Then we can pointed out the area.

Mrs Jacko.. You're right. I worked in Saudi for a while and the driving there was a nightmare. Hope Qatar is better..
