Bhutto's highly experienced Son Appointed as Chairman.

Bhutto's 19 year old son has been appointed as Chairman of the party. Though at the moment his position is ceremonial meaning he will not be involved in the decision making process and instead his father/Bhutto's husband will be the one running the show.

Now the interesting part:
"Bhutto always said democracy is the best revenge" as quoted by her son.

Wonder what would the dead Bhutto be saying about democracy as her 19 year old studying son who has no experience whatsoever of politics has been made the Chairman of the biggest political party in Pakistan.

His only achievement seems to be the son of the slayed Bhutto. Interestingly kids carry their father's names so technically speaking Bhutto's son Bilawal is not even a Bhutto so how can he call himself Bhutto?

One thing is for sure, all the dead Bhuttos would be in deep pain and agony and probably shifting in their graves on such a mockery of democracy.

I am still trying to understand how the Kennedy dynasty is different from the Gandhi or Bhutto dynasty...

A Bhutto or Gandhi will still need to be elected to office... one has to imagine that a political party would not appoint someone at its helm without a real concensus, so it is the same as in the US.

I will be case specific here and consider Rahul Gandhi's case. In my knowledge he is the leader of Youth Congress and this can be done by members of congress party(the ruling party at the moment)voting for him internally. Thereafter to become the party leader he has to go through elections where public will vote him. This is to clear any confusion I have created in earlier post.

Speaking about heritage..

Bush senior, Bush Junior, and the little Bushes partying at the campus, know that is true Texan cow hide and many other things....

Mr. Clinton blow master, and Clinton Senator and presidential election and initiative..

I rather give my vote to some independent mouse instead of bouncing around with more red head stephchildren baboons...

PM, it starts from appointing them as head of a particular party when they are young (For eg. coming back to Nehru family - Rahul Gandhi). They are groomed by the senior members and thereafter when the time is favourable they are introduced in the system. That is how it goes in the sub continent. Since this way of thinking is so typical, Mahatma Gandhi had a tough time changing laws to accomodate 'harijans' or the low caste hindus on higher posts because they were always supposed to do the 'cleaning toilets' job. Infact they had brooms attached to their pants so that it sweeps the earth after they walk.

I know that, Knox. I was writing about THEIR thought process. I don't know enough of the mentality of the people there. I hope for peace and progress for them. Maybe what Mom_me said will be true in this case.

Personally I can't see who on earth would want to be in that position as they will be an automatic target. A brave person perhaps?

PM, if Indira was not the only child of Nehru there was no way she would have been elected as a prime minister. India stil has a lot of issues with working woman and in that era....In some ways the sub continent way of thinking is very stereotype.

Knox, when Indira Gandhi died her elder son 'Rajiv' got a lot of sympathy votes. He had no experience of politics and was naive but later proved to be a good PM. Hopefully this would be the case with Butto. He is young blood and can make a difference.

Political parties are not supposed to belong to a family. There has to be a democratic process in electing the head of a party.

Political parties are not kingdoms of a family and they are not supposed to be reign by a family. If her mother was killed then we should honor her mother not her son.

Her son should be judged independent of her mother and specially not on genetic traits he has inherited from his mother.

True. Pakistan is in such a mess right now. It's difficult to see a way forward for them.

Isn't it just an honouray title bestowed upon him in respect of his deceased mother?

It could be a gesture of appreciation to the family whose blood has been spilled for two generations now because of this political party.

If he has nothing to do with the running of the party now I can't see the harm.

Time will tell.
