What's Wrong With What Michael Richards (Kramer) or Don Imus said?

This year was the year for racial slurs made by Hollywood celebs, namely Michael Richards, who we all know as the funny Kramer on the eternal Seinfeld. Added to that is what radio talk show host Don Imus said about a bunch of black female college basketball players.

My question is -- since racism is always a hot topic -- why do we raise rappers and hip hop singers, who say things much worse than what Richards or Imus said everyday, to the level of gods on earth? Isn't that considered double standards? In worst case, aren't people allowed to snap like Richards for being heckled continuously on stage or aren't people like Imus whose company pays him to be controversial (stated in his contract) allowed to make jokes that may have made black people laugh more than white people. Is it because Chris Rock (actor) and 50 Cent (singer) are black and that is why they are allowed to degrade the black race and enforce its stereotype more than any other white man would do?

I don't want any answers or questions to my questions for that matters, just your thoughts on the issue...

If anyone asks you to just cover up everything that is wrong, I agree with you that it is hypocrisy...

But it is human nature to focus on the negatives, so a group has a responsibilty to give a balanced view of the positives AND the negatives...

When a new employee joins, you spare him the coffee room crib the first few days, you start of with a good orientation session where you extoll the company no end

and then gradually the new employee learns all that is good and bad, which is perfectly normal, no system is perfect and then he joins everyone in the coffee room to crib his heart out.

But if you catch hold of him at the interview and tell him about all that is wrong, no one will join the company unless he is desperate!

I think its natural that a group would be guarded on its opinion in the presence of a member from another group. The reason being that the outside member may not be 'properly initiated' and may not get the full picture, only a distorted one.

the other day Mir was saying that I complained about Arabs not being allowed inside Garvey's!!! What? Me? Who? Where? When? Why?

and also that I was trying to find something against some people and all I was trying to do was to advise him on the correct technical term...

This is character assassination!

Just wondering how long will the feud between PM and mir83 last?

No one seems to give up.

Whereas I on the other hand give up easily specially when it is between me and a member of fair sex, such as etc etc

The other day I was just correcting you (Mir) on the correct technical usage of a word and you almost started off a religious riot!

Hey... go easy... we are all nice people here (mostly)... there is no 'you' and 'us'... nobody is defending their own cause and trying to put down someone else

everyone understands that all groups have their strengths and their shortcomings... nobody is perfect...

you are a very honest and outspoken person, but you need to trust the rest of us a bit more...

listens to gangsta rap but everyone listens and sees Kramer etc.

You can expect anything from a crazy weirdo but we expect a decent gentleman to stay within the limits of decency

You know, I was born and raised in America and I've never had a problem just speaking my mind. My friends and I got into religious debates all of the time but they were always educational. Unfortunately, the hardest people to deal with were other Muslims! It was terrible. They were always insulting others rather than teaching them. For the most part, my friends are Christian or Aethiest. We always talked about each other's religious views and it was never an issue. Now, speak to another Muslim about Islam or just simply speak your mind and it's all over. You've become too outspoken.

Now, about what Don Imus and Michael Richards both said...

I'm part African American so to hear stuff like what they said was really insulting and demeaning to say the least. "Nappy headed hoes" is no way to refer to young African American females. They already have a hard time fitting into society for many reasons. They don't need people like Don Imus saying stuff like that.

Michael Richards went too far with the "nigger" statement. Actually, the men in the crowd that he was yelling at were really nice and just walked away from the situation. I would have prayed to Allah and then went into battle mode with that man. He wouldn't like it if one of us called him a "cracker" or "wonder bread". Trust me, I know. I've grown up around all different races and none of them like to have racist slurs thrown in their face.
