BC...don't worry....you're the mother.... children will always know who their mother is... it is us fathers who have difficulty being recognized by our own children.

You carried him for 9 months in the darkness of your womb and all he knew that time was your voice and your heartbeat.... just hug him and place his head near you heart.... he will recognize that....

what can I do to make him recognise me? I was not able to sing for him over the phone..now I feel so sad.

I left my son back home when he was still a baby - just a few months old. Since I arrived here, everytime I would call home I would ask my wife to place the phone near his ear and I would sing two songs to him - "Twinkle, twinkle little star" and "I have two hands". Always those two songs every week.

When I went home he was already running and mumbling words. And the first time he saw me at the airport he was afraid and didn't want to come to me. In the car, he was just peeking through the shoulders of the one holding him, trying to make out who the stranger is. There was feeling of frustration and disappointment that came to me over it.

That's when I started to sing the two songs. It was then that he smiled and recognized the voice he's been hearing all the past months. After the second song he sat on my lap. He almost made me cry....

He's a big boy now - almost 3 years old (old enough to go for a date with Gypsy.... hehehe).

Now everytime I call home, he is the one singing those songs to me.

By the way, Gypsy, I'm bringing my family on January... care to go for a date with my boy? (see my avatar for his pic...) hehehehe

gypsy gal that was basically my point u shouldnt worry about how to approach ur own kid coz babies that young just about love everyone and is more intersted in who they can bite and who wants to play with them.

greet him and talk to him..just don't immediately run and hug him..little children can be a bit shy until they get to know you..espeically at that age..they are mommy's babies about that age anyway. Just keep playing with him and he will very quickly show you how much he loves you...and take BS's advice..its great...your wife can work with him to get him familiar with your face before he ever sees you. Good luck!!!

At this age they just love to meet new people and he will be delighted if you give him lots of attention and play with.

Congratulations and enjoy it!

Do you expect a 14 month old boy to read the sign board..lol

The best thing is as BC said, ask your wife to show your pics and tell him more about you, no worries children will easily get used to parents even if they dont see them for a long time. That bond is always their between you and your child… just love him loads.

or you could shake his hand and introduce yourself so he will know your name and you're not a stranger anymore. $-0

Seriously, just hug him gently!

that would be a little easier compared to my situation..

ask for your wife's help, tell her to introduce you through pictures, always mention your name, tell stories about you and lastly bring a lot of toys and goodies for him.

I know that's part of your plan.

you might want to hold up a sign saying "hey i'm ur DAD" just to be on the safe side incase he starts screaming.
