mine mazda 3 has about 5000 kms.

yesterday morning it started making a loudish funny noisy.

when the engine is running and it is in park, every time i push on the brake pedal i hear a noise coming from the gear selector area.

the noise is very noticeable, and lous(ish).

obviously something is not right with the shift lock mecanism.

mazda is telling me this is normal, which i know is rubbish. they say mazda japan says this is acceptable.

is this happening to anyone else?

thanks.

My friend this noise click comes from the gearbox lock only the lock means nothing to do with gearbox or break performance and it's electric lock release means if you do this while eginition key is off you wont hear it.

But may be with yours is much louder which needs the softness rubber piece inside gear handle which can be replaced by dealer but Dealer here is miserable.

Feed me back with your satsfaction.

Mody.

I just picked up a brand new Mazda 3 yesterday night. Well i have driving all night and today morning as well, but i guess its too early for me to predict on any sound at the moment.

From my knowledge, the gear shifting is smooth and i dont find anything so different about the gears. But since they way you have mentiond about noise from the gearshift, I suggest you take to car to another garage just for a second opinion to see if your transaxel is fine. And try seeing if you still have this sound if you are using the triptronic or sports gear and try manual shifting. If the sound still persists i think you need to ask Mazda for a explanation.

Good luck and keep us all updated..

my sound is coming from the gear selector, not the brake pedal area.

i don't think it will affect safety or driveability, but in general cars shouldn't make loud noises like the one i'm hearing.

i'm more worried if this leads to something more serious after the warranty finishes, or if when i try to sell it someone thinks my transmission is falling apart.

i don't think a toyota would make that noise. in fact, the piece of crap chevy i rented when i arrived here didn't either.

I too hear a similar sound from the break pedal... as if something is loose....They said the same thing to me, but there is no problem as such. Break is perfect and I never had any problem with the car..now its 22K kms...2 years now. Maybe because of the sound they call it ZOOM ZOOM.
