Biking...mountain and road...
By Alphabattle •
Any chance?!
I know that there aren't any mountains, but are there any ok off-road routes that are suitable for mountain bikes...compacted sand, rocky routes etc? Anyone know of anyone who gets out?
What about road cycling? And the rumours of the shaded cycleway? Will that ever get built?
Alphabattle, there's a good off-road trails at muaither to rayyan.it is connected to the back of lusail circuit. and i think it's all rocky desert up to the al khor area. i haven't reach farther than lusail, coz of the hot weather. maybe after the hot season, me and my buddies will try riding farther. check on google earth if you plan to venture to that area. or if you want you can join us in our future rides.
that people ride on out to the north/south of Doha? What about desert tracks that mountain bikes are ok on?
Exactly anyone I have seen riding a bike here apart from a motorbike is riding as if he hadn't a care in the world. lol
I bought a bike for my friends daughter in the UAE and the shop was suprised when I asked them to put on a light and reflectors as she was mainly riding this in the dark around her home.
Under the present circumstances it is very dangerous to ride a bike here as the drivers are not used to bicycle drivers on the road.
canarybird...he is doing 2km in 80km limit...and under Manai R/about cars/4x4s go upto 90-100kms ...and this guy has no where to give way ....he is in the middle like a sitting duck just waiting to be swatted.
Not only that once under the R/A the drivers are usually blinded for a split second as it is relatively dark in comparison to the ambient sunlight.....making the cycliest easy, run-over targets.
Cycliest are a danger not only to themself but also to other vehicles.
I find that comment very funny indeed - a cyclist speeding how much was he doing 120 kms p. h. lol. Most of the cyclist I have seen are not even doing 2kms. p.h.
You can ride a cycle here through the day...
...even on the busiest street.
I once saw a cyclist speeding under the Manai R/about, and there he has absolute no side lane to give way to larger vehicles.
This menance is growing.I understand its usually the poor labourer who cannot afford bus (time or money wise) who take to such an extreme.
And cops dont bother to catch them.
Once the traffic laws are fully implemented it may be possible to ride a bike on the street/pavement - me I wouldn't do either.
There are some who ride bicycles even in the dark with no lights and no reflectors so as they say "it's a litle bit dangerous".
Hearsay has it the shaded cycleway will come but!!!!!!!
