Xmas in Hong Kong?

I'm thinking of going to Honk Kong for Christmas.

I've never been there before, I've done some reading but I really don't know much about it.

Can anyone who's been there advise whether this is a good idea? Is there enough to see there and do there? Hotels seem to be cheap for what they offer. I don't mind the noise the city.

Thanks!

SuperExpat. Sounds great, Christmas in Hong Kong. I have only been there once and that was for one week in October but I loved it. I think its a great choice.

The origin of the X in Xmas is from the initial letter of Christos (Greek for Christ). First-century Christians readily recognised X (the Greek letter chi) as standing for Christ, as it did in the acronym ichthus, which makes up the Greek word for fish. The fish was a secret sign that early Christians used covertly to identify themselves.

Xmas is no more disrespectful than a fish symbol on a Christian's car today, but perhaps just as irritating.

..the bit about going u the teal on the peak Tram and going down on thebus - very good advice as one can se the other side of HK island.

I live in HK (12 years) - how long are you coming for as then I can give you a bit more advice about going for a hike and the outlying islands....

well all i can say is go.. go... go... what are you waiting for? if you prefer not to shop, you can go to ocean park and hongkopng disney, you can go to victoria park where the main library is in front of it. Or if you prefer to take TRAm oh boy i could tell you the fare before when i left is 2hkd, try to ride on it and it is amazing to ride on the tram. you may start from kennedy to the last part of it then return without adding another fare. Try going to Wanchai as well qrmini using your "OCTOPUS CARD" Been there before and i love the place, hopefully i could visit hk again. Try going to Ocean park i really love it. Sure you will love it too.

If you dont know the way try asking filipinas there they will help you find your way. Hongkong is a friendly country as well.

Why can't we replace Christ with X

Ya smart decision to take public transport in HK.

Buy a optoplus card (smart card) in airport metro station and preload with 500bugs can get you hassle free travel for Underground and Buses, Ferries, 7-11 shops etc.

Underground is affordable, accessible to all major destination, but not complicated as NY and London tube.

Old style HK Tram is a must try, but don't do it in mid day cos it will feel like taking train in India.

Ferries across the harbour is another public transport but more on the tourist side. Do this in the day time for photo

Take the Peak-tram from Admirarty to go Peak and come down by Bus can give you all the views of HKIsland. Do it in the evening.

Logon to KMB.com or Citybus.com.hk for detail bus route & fare.

Have fun in HK> I am going home (HK) at Eid holiday as well.

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here

Than a whole truck load when I'm gone

I assumed that the atmosphere would be ''Xmasy''. I also liked the photos of the national park and I certainly want to go to a greener country for a short break.

I'm not really into shopping, but I like going to market areas, because I think they have character.

Thanks for the tip about the nightclubs.

My dear you mix up the Repulse bay with Causeway bay.

Its half an hour from city center to this Repulse bay by taxi.

If you want to do it in local way go to the Central MTR Station, and go to bus terminal and get 6X bus.

I will recommend Stanley bay as there are more markets, and great and affordable foods.

Why HK? ....maybe you want a crazy Xmas shopping session? or you want to get a 25degree C Xmas eve in a street full of bars..etc.

right, the Xams is there in HK, well decorated shops for tourist, Atmostphere is build up on the street and TV. Economy goes well so everyone should be in the big mood of holiday.

I suggest you go to the famous peak in the evening, the view is spectaculr.

LangKauFong the local clubbing area is a must go for xmas eve.

Of course don't forget all the lovely shopping mall and streets....

I am from HK, living in doha..
