What a c[AT]ck up!
UK Today.
HM Customs and Excise lose the records of 25 million recipients of child benefit.
How can anyone lose the complete details of child benefit recipients in todays 'security tight' world? As if the names and date of births wasn't enough, the NI numbers and bank details too?
Anyone still in favour of a national ID database now?
Apparently 2 discs were sent by TNT courier for audit and they never arrived. The guy in charge has quit.
We should use the ancient Inca system of the Quipu:
records (and count) of items and people were kept on an array of colored, knotted cords called quipu. Color, type of knot, spacing and placement of the cords were all meaningful and part of a code that was used to send information on production, census, resources, and taxes owed or collected to distant parts of the empire. Runners carried the quipu which were then decoded at their destination. Quipus had anything up to 2,000 strands.
Of course if anything went wrong I am sure the Inca empire had severe penalties.
With Idiots like this in charge, i am suprised how we managed to run the vast British Empire we used to have....

"UK's families put on fraud alert
Two computer discs holding the personal details of all families in the UK with a child under 16 have gone missing.
The Child Benefit data on them includes name, address, date of birth, National Insurance number and, where relevant, bank details of 25m people"
WOWEE
Where did you read that? Sounds like a disaster!
