Schools - how long would you wait?

If you were arriving in the New Year, how long would you be prepared to wait to get into a school of your choice? What if you were offered places in schools that you were unsure about - would you still take them and then just hope for the best for those months? How can you be guaranteed spaces in schools of your choice for 2008 school year?
Thanks.

Got one child into ASD this week, without company sponsorship. Will be an available position at Cedars soon!!

We went here with Cedars as the only option, hoping for an opening at one of the other schools. Hopefully we will get number two in there as well.

But rasgas not the only ponsor, tommorow I will check to school is Qatar airways also the sponsor.

One of QL member inform me a few school that sponsored by RasGas,

ASD, Cambridge, Doha College and a few more, so I apply only to these schools.

As other school always said no seat available, these school still give us waiting list.

Hi Agietra, may I know which school did you manage to get your kids in?

And if you don't mind, who is your hubby's employer? We are waiting for an offer from Qatar Airways and very concern over the schools waiting list if we were to move over. We have 2 boys, 6 & 2 years old..

I just arrived in doha 11 days ago...

(Thanks for all QL members who always respond to new comers questions like me and also give support not to give up). I want to share my " School Search" so you get an idea.

I send the application to 3 schools on July (2 months ago).

And just get the waiting lists. Since my kids only 6 & 5 years old, it's a long list... . For older group the list is shorter :).

Then when I arrived, I called all the schools tell them that I'm in Doha with my 2 kids. They will give priority if the kids is already here. Then I made appointment to visit the schools and meet the admission staff. I got appointment, and bring the kids there just to tell them "We're here and we're serious to choose the school" (also because I don't have much option :) ).

Then, my husband and I take turn to call the admission staff to arrange the assesment for the kids, every day.

After a week, we got an assesment test for the older kid.

And, thanks God, he can join with the school.

The next day, when the older one go to school, I bring his younger sister to school and meet the admission staff to say thank you, that one of my kids can join the school, hopefully his sister can join the school.

After 2 days the young one take the assesment test. Next day join the school. Happy ending. Today is the 2nd days they're in the school. So far they are happy.

I hope this can give you a clue a little bit.

Some school also give priority to some company's employer.

Kind regards.

First contact the reputabe schools you would like your kids to attend. Find out if there is a waiting list for fall, or if you can even register them now for fall. If so, I would take the spots offered now for the rest of the year or even come for the six months on my own and bring the kids in summer. But only if you have the spots for the fall secured. It seems to be an easier task for people with British passports, I don't know if that is your situation or not. How old are your kids?

Not sure about this.. as dont have any kids and hence have not had the requirement of getting this info. But - my friends tell me that in most western expat schools - getting seats is a tight spot these days. Best option is to call them up. Are U in doha already? If not - send the mails and check on it. Sorry could not be of more help.
