Accomodation for QR

By Linaka

Hi...I am currently waiting for an offer letter from QR. I was told that I will be given a 3bdrm apartment, however, is it possible to negotiate for a villa? will we be given a chance to view the unit before accepting the job offer?

Will QR be able to help in securing a school for my children? I will be coming over with my wife and 2 children, aged 6 and 2.

Can anyone advise me the best area for accomodation ie near good international schools and malls?

Thanks.........

Best of luck, May your stay yield fruitfullness to doha and you. as said by ash_w(QLer) Qatar airways have pre rented building for accomodating their staffs.

Personally, i have experienced them being good enough. So dont worry, inshallah(by gods will) it should be ok for you too. Regarding schools there's no harm in applying through online or by fax in order to be on the safe side. Later once you arrive in here and completed the necessary formalities for getting your resident permit visa stamped, you can approach schools personally.

thanks for your reply, really appreciate it! Yes, it does cover fees for the children and medical benefits as per Insurance coverage (haven't seen what it covers though).

International schools - we have done some homework and have shortlisted a few like DESS, Doha College & Park House BUT the "horror" stories of the waiting list is scary! During the interview, I was assured that QR will be able to secure a place for my children. But I am not that convinced. Do you think coming down personally to the school to express our interest to get my children registered to the school works better than submitting application on-line or by fax ?

Housing - as of now, looks like we will settle with the housing as provided before we get trapped by the increasing rental but most likely we will come down for viewing first.

Anyway, let's see what they have got to offer.....Wish me luck!

Actually QR does not negotiate on housing, you'll probably have to accept what they are offering you.

I'm not sure if they'll let you come for a look n see visit....but it will be a wise request and I'd really encourage you to ask them.

QR owns buildings all over Doha, you may or may not end up in an area of your liking.

There are several posts regarding QR, you might want to browse thru.

Hi

good day & hope you are doing well. Advance Congrats for you and welcome to doha. Well, if your offer is from corporate companies/govt. they provide decent accomodation as all the apartments in doha being newly built or renovated/renewed. I think by QR you mean QATAR AIRWAYS. regarding viewing the unit prior to living is that what you need to talk once you arrive in here. Practically i dont think you'll be able to view housing before accepting your job offer. But there's nothing wrong in giving a try speaking.

However, there should always be an oppurtunity to claim for housing allowance if you dont like their housing. Remember, these days housing in doha is very expensive and day by day the scenario is getting worse because of the greedy landlords and real estate agents. Your early housing contract renewal is subjected to raise as much as 60% of the previous year. So,beware think twice before you make a move. Moreover, three bedroom starts from Qatar Riyals 8500+.

For schooling for your kids, it depends on your offer. Does it covers study for children and medical benefits for family. You have enough international schools? It would be good if QR takes care of your childrens educational allowance.

Personally, doha's traffic is very worse. Talking about the main city area you can live in NAJMA,MANSOURA,HILAL,,MATAAR KADEEM(airport road). However, these places are filled up by now but still you can find some near by airport road. If you live in these places all malls are close to each other. Though schools are a bit far there's always transportation provided by schools.
