Caledonian Society

New to Doha and currently looking to see what expat societies are on the go. Seen the Hash, Rugby Club Diving club etc. No reference yet to a Caledonian or St Andrews Society....any reference or is it just ad-hoc arrangments of St Andrews nights and Burns Suppers? Any other dinners/balls to put in the social diary?
Many thanks
Mac

The Qatar Caledonian Society has a website www.scotsinqatar.com ...

For all you Scots and wannae be Scots, "The Qatar Caledonian Society" has recently set up a website with details and photos of past, present and future events. You dont have to be Scottish to sign up and you don't have to be Scottish to join in, the more the merrier! Log onto www.scotsinqatar.com for further details. We have asked the Marhaba guide to update their details with our website so hopefully the first edition of 2010 will have the website in it.

If you have any questions about Scots in Qatar you can reply to this message, send me (Si1111) a private message or email [email protected]

Thanks!

(Please note that our former chieftain, John Bell, has left Qatar and our current chieftain is Alistair Dunkley).

Welcome to Doha and hope you enjoy your time here.

There is a Scottish Group here it is not well populated it is true but it will grow. There is a Scottish Dancing Group run by John Bell and he organises all the Scottish big events I will find his telephone number and send it to you otherwise buy yourself a copy of the Marhaba and you will find his number there.

Oh by the way I am Scottish to.

Someone here has started a Scottish Group (click on groups at top of this page) but it doesn't seem too well populated as yet. There's also a British Group in QL.

I wasn't here around St Andrew's Day last year so have no idea if anything gets organised by any 'groups' in Doha. Ditto with Burns Night.

lol! You just reminded me of the last Burns Supper I was involved in - it was in Basrah during the Iraq/Iran war. It was quite an event!

Anyway, maybe you can stir up the other Scots on here or in that Scottish Group. I'm not Scottish - hub is - I'm the token sassanach ;o)
