Yes have to admit it getting lost first few days in Doha at night.

Doha is small however road signage is not good.

For going to Sealine beach although is easy, however some roads are closed for roadworks.

For the router my collegue had no choice but to buy from another country, will try to get the information from him when he is back

Could you please PM me info about router? It is may be difficult to find some rare brands here. But it is easy to find router with needed specifications. AFAIK, they have or avaiable to order all Linksys and Cisco.

Carrefour sales personal are useless in most of the cases. Well, as long as you can read you dont need them anyway. USB or PS2, usually it written on the box. Or you can open the box to be sure. :)

Honestly, I dont know how you can get lost in Doha. But I believe you. Do you carry a map with you?

thanks for your comments on "only 4 major roads", however when u are new getting lost is the norm, as the roads have small labels.

Doha is a small city.

I got lost a few time here in Doha now its ok, howver if you plan to get to the beach outside Doha, there are no good maps , so GPS will be better or a basic Compass, to see which direction you are going.

My IT department could not find the router they needed after going to Sofitel the Computer centre in town, also laptops are more expensive by about $500, and portable hardrives are also expensive, as compared to my country

However it depends on which country u are from, yes Carrfour has many items , u know the other day I ask them for a USB keyboard and they say"dont have" , I went there and opened the box and found one of the keyboard is USB and also good price.

hope to see more contributions, thanks for the feedback

There is like 5-6 main roads in Doha. You dont need a GPS for that. Just remember some shotcuts, that's it. :)

Limited make up? What are you talking about?

Headphone/microphones for Skype you can easily find in Carrefour and computer souk. Routers, not overpriced hard drives you can find in computer souk and some small shops. What kind of router you coud not find?

As soon as you get off the plane, DaRude will escort you to the limo he's already booked for you (wolf sledge), he will take care of your luggage and everything else... not to worry... lol!!

On the other hand, Qatar is a place you will like since there are lotsa expats here, we have a mixed community and QL is fun to stay connected with... but you only havta take care of 1 big bad wolf in here... no points for guessing who that is..:-P

If I were to settle permanent in Doha I will prepare the following

1)Get a PS3 or Wii Or Karoake set if you enjoy it ,as during this summer period not many people would like to go out in this heat, only after this hot season is over

2)Temperatures are hot to 51 deg C

3)Prepare to be able to cook ,some ingredients are not available here and if they are they are very expensive, like vegetables they are more expensive here , Diet here if you eat out mostly fast food

In no time you will gain weight

Not many restaurents here, so dont have a wide range of food and restaurents to choose from, you will get bored with the food and finally cook at home

japanese restaurents never seen them, Korean restaurents selling Jap food only 1 so far spotted

4)International driving licence needed, road signage small so use building for navigation or use GPS.

5)Join a gym if possible.

6)Make up and all the ladies items are also limited here

7)basic Computers are available , however some special things are not available better to get them before you arrive, example special cables, some routers for internet not available, portable hardisk expensive and computers and laptops are more expensive here .

8)Communications for tel is only 1 company Qtel, bring your own skype etc get special cards for tel rates and the tel is expensive and best and cheapest is skpe ,yahoo chat etc

Bring your own headphones, microphones for skpe etc

9)There are no parties, very little clubs, mostly at the Hotels a handful only, so most of the time spent during the leisure is either in the GYM etc

10)Shopping is only Carrfour, vilagio, city centre , small country ok

Red carpet service is waiting for your arrival at the airport.

Limousine service will meet you outside.

Don't forget to tip the baggage handler and driver.
