Arts scene in Qatar

What is the arts scene like in Qatar. I'm a producer (theatre / festivals / live art) coming to be based in Qatar in 2008 as the result of a project in the region, and wondered what the arts scene is like in Qatar? Also, can anyone recommend the best country clubs - I'd like to join a club where I can play tennis, and hopefully the same club would also have a gym and swimming pool. Any recommendations? Does Qatar have any golf courses, btw? Cheers, George

hi there,

just wanted to get in touch. If you are going to be producing things here then I would be very interested to not only follow what you are doing, but also perhaps get involved if at all possible. The art scene here is not great, but there are some pretty good random performances. I got to see Roberta Flack along with Sister Sledge, the Weathergirls and other equally random groups at easter which was brilliant. Anyway, I am now working for a newspaper her, and am keen on reporting any upcoming cultural events, so if anyone has any information, please do not hesitate to get in touch - it will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Inexistent!

As for the clubs, as PM pointed out there are many of them (although the Doha Club closed down last year), including a Gulf club.
