Qatar Airways vs Emirates

Hello,

I'm planning to take a long flight in a couple of months. Both QA and Emirates have flights going my way. Which is better? Which airline would you book?

Thanks in advance.

hey people,

thanks for the info. i'll definitely conduct my due diligence before booking my flight. i've flown emirates a couple of times...enjoyed to amenities (movies, food, etc.) and the service. however, i'm definitely down for a straight flight to the states via Q.A....especially if it will decrease my chances of lost luggage due to a transfer in dubai. but we'll see.

carpe diem!!

I have never worked in airline industry. I guess a travel agency or QR person would be in much better position to explain you that. But from what I understand, airlines generally have a policy of overbooking the flights to counter no shows hence avoiding empty seats. Flight booking levels depend a lot on how efficient their PFC (Pre-Flight Check) is done by their groundstaff. PFC is generally done 72/48 hours before the flight to confirm with each passenger whether they're confirmed to fly or not. So if the PFC is done properly you would be in a better position to know how good is the flight load.

As for the Japan thingy, there ought to be some misunderstanding. Or perhaps your friend must've not confirmed at all. Will never know. People generally tend to shift blame onto the vendors to avoid embarrassment with friends. Be it with airlines or car rentals or a food joint.

Would you pls explain this ... Couple of years ago we booked flight to Manchester with QA. Then when we came to their office in airport road, my husband being told that we have to go into the waiting list because the flight is fully booked.

On the day we flew ... half of the seat were empty? How is that works?

And another things is ... how can they cancel your seat when you being told that the flight is confirmed? Happened to my friend who booked the hols to Japan with QA. They paid flight and hotels, on the day they being told that their seat is cancelled. They have to go home and came back the next day ... the lost 1 day hols and all the cost they have paid for the hotel.

I will never understand how these airlines works. :D

Flew via QA when we came here in Qatar and Emirates a couple of days ago and they seem to be both comfortable to me. Staff in both Airlines seem to be very efficient and helpful.

I think you need to get your facts right. Whoever told you that Emirates don't have ground staff at the airport? LOL.

Moreover, if you're referring to QR handling your baggages on Emirates Airlines, you're mistaken again, I'm sure you're talking about QAS, that's Qatar Aviation Services!

Since you have never flown QR, perhaps, its high time you do so and save yourself a stopover at Dubai each time you wanna get out of Doha. ;)

Emirates is the only airline I have currently been travelling, tried booking QA in doha had so much trouble with them so I said I wouldnt think about flying with them, I fly Emirates back from doha to Sydney and have had no trouble with them what so ever, the bagage lost might be due to the limited stopover time you have in dubai, touch wood I myself have not experienced that. Also someone mentioned the staff were not helpful in doha, to the best of my knowleadge emirates dont have staff in this airport its all QA staff so there goes. haha ! flight entertaintment wins hand down in emirates, with them offering a whole load of movies and other things. I dont know, may be me but I just have alot more faith in emirates. Just my whole experience with everything from the ground up. good service doesnt start in the AIR but from the time you Step into the Airport, and so far QA has not shown that.

Good morning and wake up bro! Like Colt said they've been flying A330 for quite a while to Bombay and thats all that matters to me now.

Way too easy to get on with subload tickets even during the peak season! :)

QA anytime for me...but i seriously think that QR shud change the flights on routes to India man...they have these crappy A320 flights which are sick...come on guys India deserves a better Aircraft it accounts to one of the maximum destinations and revenue...that wud be really exemplary...and yes QR Business Class is out of the world...and even the new Terminal Mind-Blowinggggggg......

Morning to u guys by the way...

True... but being in the aviation industry for over a decade now i can safely say that not all these are avoidable delays... sumtimes when you're approaching destination on time, you're put into a holding pattern by the local ATC due to weather or watever and that cud well delay you for like a good 30-45 mins before you can get your clearances to descend.

And so this delay tends to get consequential and follows on to the rest coz that other flight will wait for passengers from this flight (if sizeable nbrs) and so on and so forth...

Remember, the airline looses a lot of money when they delay a flight, so we dun like delaying you guys, just that sometimes it unavoidable... and so now i rest my case and lets not hijack this one as well...

Now thats what we call, "Taking you more Personally"! LOL

But yes, I kinda agree with Novita that QR flights are delayed on most occassions. Even the crew friends of mine laugh about it cos they can't really commit to what time their arrival back in Doha would be at, to catch up on a party / a movie or something.

The only plausible reason would be that those 4 guys were not QR staff but the Ground Handling staff and hence they must have been pointing to the QR staff.

Kinda happens in most places, the handling company will always refer you to the airline...

Anyways, I'm not making excuses for their lapse, but hope you have a good journey the next time you fly QR... holla me and i will ensure you get treated well... ;-)

Yeh I flew Joberg from Dubai like 2 years ago when we were starting there and i was upgraded to Businesss Class. But i can really tell you that QR Economy class service on these long haul flights was better than the EK J class service. Besides, they always mishandle baggage coz they have a minimum connecting time of i think 1.5 hours, so if your connecting anytime less than that, youu can rest assured, your baggage won't ride the flight you're in. So not the case with QR.

i guess your flight with Emirates is jinxed in the contrary of mine lmao.

I witnessed QA cancellation in London ... and it was in total chaos. There is no organization at all ... 5 staffs standing up in the counter, but 4 of them have no idea what to do. Keep pointing out to an arab looking guy for sorting out. Poor guy looks so streessed out trying to sort all the passengers.

By Colt45• 7 Aug 2007 07:23

Hell yeh... i have seriously to ask the sales dept. for my cut on the promotions im doing on their behalf... hey sorry if you guys are jinxed with QR, but really the crew services etc is much better than EK, coz I know for a fact that the EK crew dun give a damn bout service, they will be like yeh will get you that when i'm here next and you're like waiting.

Regd you Jakarta trip, i think we fly the A300 aircraft there and those aircraft's are being converted into freighters, coz they are kinda old.

LHR-DOH...cancelled... why? I'm sure there was a reason for that and you would have been compensated (not that it is any consolation)

And AMM trip... well delays were a part of the airport expansion during that time...

So dun you think i deserve a good BONUS this year... (if they have heard of anything like that)...lol!!!

RAY - Let's not talk bout the wifey... she used to fly with QR competitors at one point in time and when I joined QR, I asked her to come and fly with us. She simply refused and was like... are you nuts? I am so happy here, why wud i wanna ruin that...

So...watever????

I can't remember last when I flew with Emirates. Oh yes, it was to and fro Jo'burg last August. I lost 2 piece of out 3 baggages that I had checked in! Their staff in Doha were so crappy that they didn't know what to answer me. All they had to say was DXB is a very busy station and such things tend to happen. I was like yeah fine, but is that what you will keep saying to rest of 9 families standing here with me!!?? LOL

Contrastingly, and I am being very true here, I haven't faced a single problem with Qatar Airways flights for as long as I could remember. Last I can remember having a problem on QR was perhaps with food or something 3 years back.

One a much important note, I haven't had any luck with any EK crew yet, sadly! :(

Oh its Qatar Airways hands down for me!

Just imagine what would have happened to so many people who are now happily married and well settled (and many many more have potential to do so in future too), hadn't it been for Qatar Airways. :)

Colt, isn't your wife plain happy or what to have a better half as a Qatar Airways employee? ;)

You couldn't be serious eh? :P My flight back here from Jakarta their intertainment flight did not work, last may our flight from Heathrow to Doha is cancelled, last year in March both incoming and outgoing flight to Amman delayed. Told ya ... our flight with QA is jinxed !!!

PS: You will have to ask pay rise for the extra promotion you do for QA.

Simply becoz i work for them... hee haw!!!

No really, if you're going to DC, then you're better off taking the QR flight coz we fly there non-stop and the aircraft is the A340-600 which is a beauty to fly in, especially if you're flying the premium class... even if it is economy, the pitch in between the seats is so much better than EK.

If you're flying to NY, then i think EK go there direct, coz we fly to Newark (EWR) viz Geneva, on the A330, which is also a good aircraft to fly in...

Hell yeh, all QR aircrafts are good to fly in you know why... "Coz we take you more personally"... (and i'm saying that with a straight face)...

which way do you go? I know Emirates soon will have Doha - New Castle direct (started in September), that will be our next flight for our next travel back to the UK which is handy for avoiding Heathrow security check.

I am not too keen with QA ... give me Emirates anytime. Never have any luck with QA ... i think we are jinxed travelling with them lol.
