according to my views, sanjay dutt was not a criminal, he was used rather he was exploited by the criminals unknowingly. while the real masterminds are far away from the punishment they deserve punishing sanjay dutt and others is not going to solve the real problem.
You are trying to mix two different things here. My stand was quite clear and well explained.
If he gets out on a good conduct count, I would be very happy for him and for all of us. All that I am trying to defend is my point that 'justice delayed does not mean justice denied'.
I have nothing against Sanjay Dutt at all. But if I have done a crime I will have to pay for it sooner or later. That is the law of nature and that's how justice should be done.
Early release and good conduct and stuff comes much later. You've gotta decide whether or not he did commit a crime in the first place.
Also what about the rest of the families who suffered along with him? Running in and out of jail, trying to get bails for their member. They too were mentally tortured for 14 odd years. Should we let them get away with their crimes too? Sanjay was atleast lucky being a celeb to get bails on time.
I m not denying what you are saying.......there may be difference in type of crime. It was same ppl who wanted jessica lal murderer to be sentenced although after so many years.........
All I m saying if this sentence was early so much emotional cry wldnt have not been there.
In another couple of days he ll get bail because of good conduct of 14years under bail.....and again goes number of years......
Well could we have done much about it? We're talking about 1993 Hindu-Muslim riots and the bomb blast cases! Which means umpteen number of cases one after the other. The delay was inevitable
Moreover, that is the way our judicial system works. Slow as a tortoise.
However, Sanjay and his dad tried also their best to delay or bury it by themselves. Didn't they? If a person is guilty and the justice has been delayed that does not mean that he is supposed to go scott-free altogether. We can only speak of Sanjay Dutt cos we know him personally.
Wouldn't you like the murderer of someone you know (God forbid) to be punished even after 25 years?
Well there is never anyone above the law...well its high time that the Indian Law put it down...but then in India the law can be moulded...so lets see what Sanju do to get out from this whirlwind as soon as possible and get onto Munnabhai Chalo America...we'll have to wait and see...
Well said Ray...indeed a long post but a true one...so we know who is doing judging here on QL bro...
If the same sentence had been handed out then and not 14years later ,I guess it would have been more effective......14years of your life living everyday not knowing when this bail would end off........I guess its not that easy and is big punishment by itself.
I don't think its because of his cleb status.....When he was cleared from the other cases...everybody tried their best to save him. At least he managed to get away with 6 years than life imprisonment..
Do you really think he got sentenced for his celeb status? I actually feel otherwise.
Do you think his lawyers were not competent enough not to have tried their best to present his case in a good light? Or was the judge not fair to him at all? I am sure each did their best to help Sanjay (including the judge) as he is a much better man now.
But eventually, after seeing all the positives and negatives of the case, the verdict was handed out.
I think the judge did a good job in handling the case first of all. He made it very clear last year that Sanjay Dutt wasn't a terrorist, but at the same time by handing out this decision it should be known to all that no one is above the law. I still feel that this is not a harsh sentence as the guy who took the guns from Sanjay got 25 years! Maybe the judge loved Sanjay Dutt's acting or whatever, we will never know.
Sanjay's lawyers tried their best to save his case by saying that possession of weapons was for his personal protection or an immature act. But obviously the judge is much better person than any of us to make that decision.
Can you imagine such a thing happening in America? You think anybody, be it Brad Pitt or Julia Roberts, would have stood the trial for such a long time? Sentence would have been given long ago, let alone using their personal influences to sway the case in their favors.
We feel a lot for Sanjay and have a lot of sympathies towards him cos we can relate to him thru movies, especially the Munnabhai series. But what about the rest who are lesser known to us and have been given much harsher verdicts?
It also remains to be seen what happens next. Whether or not Sanjay can use his influences and pull a few strings to save himself further.
Sometimes wrong people get convicted and the real one get away due to lack of evidence...its not the end of the world...he still can appeal in higher courts..am sure he will get better verdict from the appeal court.
Being frineds with a criminal...dont make him a Criminal..its his fate!

This is a great write-up about the Judge who presided over this case.
Have a look and I guess it will give everyone a better idea why the sentencing was so delayed.

I just saw and heard it in the news that actor Sanjay Dutt has been
given a 6 years jail sentence and a fine of Rs. 25,000/.
If one is guilty he needs to be punished whoever it may be.
So its for you to decide whether Sanjay Dutt is guilty or not.
