In my opinion (not that it counts, my dirhams for your thoughts, thats all), you shouldnt change that avatar unless you are convinced that you absolutely should.
People in this forum has come to love and identify you with that little green gorilla. To change it would be absolute murder. I am not saying that we will not get used to seeing you in a diferent avatar. But there will always be this sense of loss, of what it originally was and what it should originally have been...
Whether you love it or hate it, you have become one of the best known faces in QL. And i believe that people like to see experienced faces, for they trust them and respect them.
For those who have never seen you face to face, you are the icon in green. The people who join after you change the icon would not have a problem. But believe me, the people who knew you before, would feel the loss.

I often change my avatar. what I do is delete the first one then hit submit then upload another avatar then submit no need to log off just hit refresh and voila! it will change it! Good luck! ;-)

It takes time before it changes, that's what happened to me when I changed avatars.
in getting back to Gorillaz avatar? That is what I can see now again :) , wish that my eyes are cheating on me.
I still see that cartoon in green :/

I had same problem.
You go to your account, delete your pic. confirm
Go into account again and hit Ctrl F5 - that clears the cache - confirm
THEN go back into account and submit new avatar.

after changing, try to log out and come back again.

and submit ok.
go back to edit and add the avatar
and submit ok again
and wait for a while maybe hour or two
