Killer Arabian Ants in Doha, Qatar

Very funny thing happened last night - got bitten by an ant!!!

Ha ha one might say but it hurt like hell. Thought I had been stung by a bee(do they have bees in Doha?) Still damn sore in fact! My husband and 3yr old think this is hysterical - so do I but what kinda ants do they breed in the desert?

We have nicknamed them Killer Arabian Ants, reminds me of being bitten by Matabele ants in Zimbabweas a kid, which are as big as your little toe and don't let go. They are used by the Matabele tribes as a way to stitch up cuts and wounds, just put the ant onto the cut and once it has bitten break off the body leaving the rest to hold the wound shut, works really well!

Anyway that's my input for the day - have to go and squash some ants, get em b'fore they get me!

Working Ants are nomadic and foragers.

Working Ants leave scented trails for others to follow from their nest to the areas of food found.

Working Ants will collect food debris anywhere, anytime.

Working Ants will not bite you, unless they are provoke in self defense.

African Fire ants are natural enemies of the termites and more aggressive than the local ones.

My recommendations are:

The best you could do to keep ants from your house is to vacuum your furniture, sweep and mop the floor with clorox it helps destroying their scented trails.

Minimize the areas you eat at your house. If you drop crumbs and food debris in the floor or furniture expect the critters to pay you a visit.

If you decided to fumigate, gas bomb, or set ant traps in your house, you are just wasting your money.

The best bet is to buy granule ant poison and spread it outside your house perimeter( following the contours of your house walls close to the floor cement pad foundation of your house, Kind making a solid line around your house.)

That will keep them away for a while.

Those ants are huge! And you're right - they're painful. You'd never guess that an ant could cause so much pain.

My whole family has got bitten...not nice!

Ant bites hurt a lot. Next time that happens or anything of the sort make sure you have Fenistil gel around.

Bees do exist in Doha, mainly in the spring, as do wasps.
