how nice is qatar
By sweetaholic •
hi all... i am going to be moving to qatar soon---to join QU--- from the emirates and i'm freaking out.. everyone here says that qatar is a dead, boring and empty place to live and so very expensive and its a big mistake..especially since the emirates is a wonderful place to live.. is it true?
i would love to hear some feedback to put my mind at ease
I think you will be fine coming here from another Gulf country. Dubai; obviously friendlier, more things to do, but the reality is its still the Gulf.
I came from Egypt and surrounding Middle Eastern countries where I found it intolerable coming to Qatar.
Trust me, you will be fine.
You will earn the $$, but get ready for no excitement whatsoever...
We're not here for the scenery or weather. Take away the paying attractions and malls of Dubai and there's not much of a difference.
In Doha you have to put up with the building of the country, something it missed when all the Gulf was doing it in the late 70s and 80s.
There is nothing like UAE.It is the best place ever.Sorry to disappoint you and good Luck!!
It's definitely duller, overall, than the UAE. It doesn't have the glitz of Dubai but Doha is working hard on getting the same traffic problems.
It's not as nice, friendly and organised as AD but it's not too bad.
If you've spent any time in the Gulf, it won't come as a huge culture shock.
Good luck.
You can't really say don't compare cause a person will unevitably compare the places he/she lived in.
Pros of Qatar : Less crowded, less traffic than Dubai. You don't have to wait for like 3 hours on the road like Dubai's highways. Relatively safer place to raise ur children. I think overall it's a less expensive life than Dubai, because there isn't much to do u don't spend alot of money. If you're the type of person who likes a generally more relaxed life then Doha is the place.
Cons of Qatar : Less places to go and things to do. Not as active and lively as Dubai. The roads and driving are a mess. Rents are crazy.
Saying all that, Qatar does seem to be hell at the start but after u start getting to know people, it can be fun, so I guess Qatar is what u make of it. Afterall ur not staying here forever, and it'll be an experience. So I say go for it.
honestly,it all defends in what country u came from, and novita77 got a point there....at first culture shock....then you'll try to hop in the crowd....then look for your friends to be and your material need....then discover what qatar is like....then.....in the middle....you'll feel like saying i.... i wish or i miss....then qatar's environment will actually transform you in a different mode or even attitude both environment n workplace....totally different.....anyway for me its not a nice place to work and even live boring lah....just counting the months until my contract ends.......sorry sweetahlic for the negative point but its my perspective view in being here in qatar....but still it's worth trying...good luck
i only been to AD once ... stayed there with a friend for 5 days. I like the city ... they are very organize with the road system :-)
Dont start comparing them with doha road though lol...
we moved from anu dhabi few months back! Still cant get over it!get ready for a major disappointment!
well ... you make the most what you have. You can come to Qatar and go out and about meet ppl and enjoying ur self , or you can come here and winch till your heart content comparing it with UAE.
Seriously ... every place have their pro and cons :-)
