Contraception in Qatar

wooly
By wooly

Hi all.

New to posting but been lurking for a while so aware this one may blow up on me!

I'm moving to Qatar in the summer. Is contraception available to unmarried women or is it something I need to sort out before I move.

I'd appreciate any help on this one

Thanks

wooly,

I would recommend that you talk to your doctor from home and tell him/her where you are moving to, and ask whether or not your kind of pill is availible there...they should be able to find out. If it is not, then they ask to be put on one that is availible in Doha, but make sure to try it out before you leave because changing pill types can really mess up your body. You want to make sure that what is availible works for you.

Whatever you do, don't just try them randomly based on what is availible in Doha upon arrival, this can lead to serious health problems.

Good Luck!

So is it your fault that they are always too big?

It dun't really matter.

Did you add it to your resume? Would've been cool to have had a T-Shirt that said "I tested yours" or something like that.

That takes me back...pmsl.

We were testers for Durex when we first got married.............over 39 years ago.

Eight page questionnaire for us each to fill in. The wifes best ever comment was when she said that one of them felt "gritty". Didn't feel a thing myself.

thanks e46...checking it out :-D

about ocp...i do know one thing that every medicine has a different effect on different people, doesnt really mean that one should suffer the side effect...but then it doesnt comfort me.

xena.......have you visited soulcyster website.i was taking herbal remedy too but i felt a slight case of vertigo.thats another problem with herbal mads here.....we have huge stores such as GNC here providing us with herbal remedies but the attendants over there dont know more than whats written in the herbal directory and there isnt a single naturopath or herbal doctor here to advise us. even my gynaec knows about dongquai but not vitex. shes never heard of it until i told her and vitex is available here.

so whom do we consult and what do we take.

i built my own literature scouring the net for herbal remedies.

xena...so we are cysters......

i need to take ocp for the same reason..else am not fond of it at all. i was told diane but am hesitant about it........you shouldnt have a problem getting ocp here.its over the counter drug.i can still ask my doc for you.

are you looking for marvalon here?

i had noticed that although i had not put on weight each month when on the ocp (this was 4-5 years back, pre baby time), but when i finished the 6 month treatment i had put on a whopping 5 kg and have never been able to shed that off.still tryin and hormonal issues make weight loss more difficult.

why do women suffer?

I am on Yasmin...

It is the only pill I know that doesn't make you pick up weight... The only thing I found is that my monthly is slightly more painful on Yasmin than when I was on Marvalon

I have been getting my friend to fill my prescription at home and then sending it to me.

Can I get it here? and do I have to go to a doctor for it?

I am on it to control cysts in my falopian tubes, so its a medical reason. Would I need my charts from S A to prove this? I really don't feel like ending up in hospital again to have more removed...

Can you shed some light on the for me?

They're available in most pharmacies. Just look (discreetly) in the Durex section. It is worn by the male and when switched on emits vibrations.

'nuff said!

no time to go searching for a condom when in the heat of the moment and with kids....you gotto keep condos in a high secure area :-D

e46....whats this vibration thingy you talking about...i thot you had to go to bangkok to get those.

Vibrators were available in the toy shop in the Sofitel when it first opened. "Stud" delay spray for men was available in the souk in 1983

What I don't understand is that "sexual aids" are banned but you can go and buy a Durex Play Vibrations thingie.

Contraception is v easy to get hold of. Condoms are readily available in all chemists and supermarkets. Pills are too, but unless you're already on one or go to see a doc first I don't recommend you just pick up the first packet you see. Yasmin, however, is a good one.

With the amount of "fake" drugs in the Gulf I would avoid the pills altogether and go for condoms!

They are well known brands. Yasmin for one is US FDA approved and recommended by many doctors as one of the "better" ones.

Not going to work or just unknown brands?

I'm going to take a guess and say that any pill that your doctor would recommend back home won't be avaliable over the counter here. The ones here are pretty dodgy looking.

So effectively you could get the doctor to recommend a pill back home and just get it over the counter in Qatar but (I'm guesssing) anything that would require a doctor to administer it isn't going to be possible?

Could be Scorpio. I was on the Diane ones. They are awful and I found out they are banned in Canada. :P

But be careful! The birth control pills avaialbe here aren't any that I recognize and one has been banned in Canada by the food and drug admin. I tried a birth control pill here and wound up with the worst mood swings I've ever had in my life.

I recommend getting pills or anything like that sorted before you come.
