Appropriate attire and behavior etc for a visit

A friend and I (both women; she's 70 & I'm 53) will be visiting Qatar within the next year. When is the right time of year to visit? Where should we stay if our primary destination is Education City? What should we wear or not wear in order to avoid offense? Is it possible for western women to wander through the souks without a male escort? Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
after going to Villagio last night I would say for some folk anything goes... really I don't know what some ladies are thinking! Struth
Personally I keep my legs and shoulders and the bits in between covered. I dress respectfully and so wish to be treated with respect.
To the ladies with flesh and wobbly bits on full show....
Do you realise that you can look attractive without displaying all the goods in the shop window?
I would generally say Qataris do appreciate westerners who dress more modestly and feel embarrassed when the scantily clad strut. :)
I come from the UK and have enjoyed many a night out with only female friends,(my husband's interest in shopping is minimal)and have not had any problems. I have always been made to feel welcome in the souks and anywhere else but obviously when in Rome do as the Romans. Compared to England, the lack of flesh (pink and fatty) on show is a welcome relief. Also, if you are interested in anything, do stop and ask a local person, they really do enjoy sharing their country with us and will give up time to help you.
Are u visiting Weill Cornell by any chance ?
Hi,
I can tell you that it is fine to walk in the Souqs without a man. It is appropriate to keep shoulders covered and any skirts I wear out in public in the day are knee length or below and T-shirts are fine too. I wear pretty much what I would wear in UK, in summer, just a little more modest. You just do not want to stick out and be respectful to the locals. I hope you enjoy your trip.
As for the best time to visit- avoid summer, even now is very hot. October to May is good, but it depends what you are used to!!!
I hope you enjoy Qatar.
