A little help.....

By Garry and Lena

Hi all,

This our first post on the forum.....

I'm currently in negotiation with Qatargas for a position at Ras Laffan and really need to know about expat living and the standards that one could expect. The accommodation allowance offered is currently circa $3400 per month as well as a car allowance.....is this sufficient?? (we would require a 3 b/r villa).

Another very important question is that my wife is Russian (I'm British), should this cause problems with visa's etc... as I'm currently in the UAE (just arrived) and we are having great difficulty obtaining a visa for my wife (I'm told it is due to prostitution!!) even though we have supplied our marriage cert etc...

My wife is expecting our first child and therefore I need to know if the hospitals are of a good standard?? Can the father be at the birth??

Sorry for all of the questions......but better ask now rather than regret it later!!

So ultimately we should be looking at Qatargas to provide a suitable place and maybe opt out of an allowance.

Any ideas about giving birth in Qatar as my wife will be due in August??

Thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming....

Qatar gas I think provides accomodation now in Doha as they have shortage of apartments at AlKhor.

The living salary is ok, but you might find it a little low for a 3 bedroom villa. They go (and please someone correct me if I'm wrong) for about 15,000 QAR a month.

Live in Doha, there isn't anywhere else to live. If you live in Al Khor you will be closer to Ras Laffan, but there's nothing there. You're wife will go crazy.

Accomodation is not readily available. I would ask QatarGas to find you someplace, perhaps they own a compound somewhere.

Qatargas provide private healthcare....

Another question.... if working at Ras Laffan which would be the best area to live and is accommodation readily available as here in Abu Dhabi I'm having a real problem finding anything suitable (is the rent paid monthly or yearly??).
