GRADUATE JOBS

MeMe
By MeMe

Hi All

I was wondering what job prospects are available for Business Management (BA) graduates in Qatar.

Areas of interest are (although not limited to):

Recruitment

HR

Consultancy

I am a British female and would be looking for the usual ex-pat package.

SO... Is it best just to apply for a job or do actual graduate fast-track opportunities exist?

Any help/advice would be great.

:o)

With Chris Myers and I think round about that time Hassan Al-Nuaimi, Ian Tait and Heather got involved.

Madam MeMe :), anyone seeking for an advice should always explain the situation in detail.

You can get the job without much effort. Try to get hold on some ppl who can work as a bridge between u and HR and also provide a good reference.

Gosh Dewller

It was so long ago - probably around 10 years ago. I worked at the golf club (general HR) and Qatar airways (although this was a combined role - general HR role and recruitment). I think HR in Doha has probably come a long way since then ;o)

I enjoy HR but I think that I'd really like to get into consulting.. I don't know what the chances of this would be in Qatar - not great I presume, so maybe I should be looking here in the UK too.

I'm really just trying to assess the situation there at the moment before I decide on a definite course of action.

If you were in HR in Qatar, who were you with and when?

Hi Neo and Dweller..

Thanks for the advice... I have 10+ years of relevant experience and some of that was in Qatar.. I took a break to have my kids and study for an honours degree (mature student) lol.

I just wondered what the market is currently like there as I am not in the country to assess for myself.

Looks like just applying for a job will be the way to go.

Neo - getting a graduate from one of Europe's top universities is a plus (so I'm told) so I was kinda hoping that along with the actual qualification and experience might add up to enough, to make me a respectable candidate for a job in my chosen area.

let me know what you think my chances are?

It is highly unlikely that any company in Qatar will recruit a graduate with no or little experience. Primarily, it is the experience that is required. Human Resources in particular is an area that has been targeted for nationalisation over a number of years.

I would suggest that you consider gaining a great deal of experience prior to venturing into the Gulf region.

Seriously, forget what amr stated, it's incorrect.

I'm sorry Amr, but buddy u should find some better way to answer a simple question.

MeMe: telling u the truth, Qatar is good place for expats but why ppl hire a fresh graduate expat instead of a fresh graduate local candidate? u can try ur luck but i would suggest that u should gain some experience in ur country first.

to try ur luck u can check the following websites:

www.bayt.com

www.naukrigulf.com

www.jobmiddleeast.com

www.monstergulf.com

Amr, u need to work on ur resume/cover letter in order to get selected for an interview. there is nothing to do with gender to get a job :)

Thanks for replying, ideas on where to apply would be great.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had no luck as yet... I hope you get something soon, I hear it can be difficult to get a job after university...

I haven't started applying as yet cause I just began inquiries about the grad job market there... and I don't finish my degree until June.

So wasn't sure if there are actual grad positions or whether I just apply for a job...

Any hints would be of great help and much appreciated.

Hi British female,

My name is Amr. I am a just-turned 25 Jordanian guy. I've been looking for a job since October 06. I am computer science graduate from Qatar University. What I am trying to say, I am a guy, which means I have to suck a2s and eat dirt to finally get hired, and this is normal in Qatar. People hate to hire males in generals. On the other hand, they'd k*s* your a2s to accept working with them. If you're young and pretty and still not hired, that means you haven't tried well. If you need me to tell you where to apply and locations, hit me back, otherwise don't.

Good luck, girl.
