Whats has happened to Qatar Living Lately ?

Why r we getting so many of these sensitive posts lately .. About Countries n Religions and Americans and Lebanese and whoever else.. I think these things just trigger off ppl and it turns ugly real quick.. and people who are putting up these posts know this ... Somethings are best left alone.. Rather than discussing it with everyone out there and then take things so personally... when a person expresses their view out here is'nt that the whole purpose of the post????

we need to start pointing out these people who are dragging this site down and bring it back to the way it use to be!!!! theres an element of people on this forum who have recently signed up who are treating this as a kids forum! This is a family forum people dont seem to be remembering this!!!

In Qatar Living the various forums have been classified. Problem is People dont post their stuff in the proper forum and everything gets mixed up. This is what has been happening on this site.

This site should be for people wanting to know more about Qatar, setting up moving here etc, it is not a forum for religious discussion. We are all from different faiths and this is a Muslim country, as long as we respect that us expats get on fine.

Whenever religion comes up there is always an argument, and obviously no one wins and it turns ugly. The same when we discuss individual races. I really don't think we should do it, I have been drawn into a couple of them and I am always regret it.

Hopefully I can provide decent information for people wanting to move here and in future will not rise to silly discussions.

Hopefully whenever you see my dancing spiderman you will know its some decent info rather than a rant against something

qatari: my experience is one can never learn about a religion without a proper guide. we all at this forum and those who don't even practice our religion properly so we can guide ppl to be on the right path. what i suggest u is to make a strick rule: anyone using abusive language, talking about religion (in terms of critism), pornographic / sexual material, if found or complained with proof, should immediately be kicked out of QL. Eventually QL will be left with good ppl. this is what i think so.

and I'm finding a lot of useful stuff here - and just ignore the rubbish. It's a bit like people who don't like what's on TV - don't watch it! Don't read the bad and enjoy the good.

Having said that, I really do agree with Charmed that there is a lot of nastiness here, but sadly that's what happens when people don't have enough to do. It saddens me greatly to think that most of those people are guests in the country. When I was still in London I used to get fed up with people moaning about the place - and a lot of them were Australians - complaining about the weather, the price of things, the food, all sort of stuff. My answer to them was, if you don't like it, go home!

People are in Qatar mostly for one thing - money! It would be nice if they could see that there are lots of opportunities too - to live a life they would otherwise not be able to. They are using the country for their own means, and should have a little more respect. If they don't like the laws of the country they are in, TOUGH! Get over it and get on with it.

Charmed, I am sure there are plenty of us with enough intelligence to continue to use this space as a lively forum for discussion and for help, etc. The danger, of course, if it gets policed too closely is that we then become embroiled in censorship.

This is not directly related to the issues being discussed but IS relevant to swearing.

A local council in the UK (Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire)introduced a filter to remove all profanities from being written on the site.

For a week, no one at the council site ([email protected]) received any e-mails. Looking at the town name, can you guess why?

BTW, it is a true story.

yes some guidelines would be great ( by the way this is the best forum i have ever been on you are doing an amazing job here!)! If we could stop the obscene words and all the filth which is happening on here it would be great - i think people tend to forget we are living in a muslim coutry and should respect there culture and belifs! Im just so sad that people are acting this way! and thank you again qatari for setting this forum up me and the hubby love it!

That's a good point. The site has seen a lot of growth over the last two months and that means a lot of new people.

Maybe it would be good to come up with some community guidelines to keep things on track?

QL is meant to be a friendly place and I certainly don't want anyone to feel demeaned here.

just now i was flicking through a thread - on muslim religon and theres people using obscence words! believe me in no prude really im not - i use bad language but on this forum its wrong!

Its like a whole bunch of new people have joined up and think its okay to be nasty and rude in a derogatory manner. It makes me wonder why the people feel the need to do this .....

all is well as long it doesnt resort to filthy language and personal insults.

then its no longer a discussion.

i dont think people come here to be insulted or made fun of.

everyone has a right to be respected for his opinions and beliefs.

its simple......if one cant say anything good...then dont say anything bad either.

humouring in a thread and attacking is very different.sometimes we have members who dont say much that can be of help but their posts have humour in it. its always better to get someone to smile rather than frown.

i do agree wid ur view point but on the other side what i've observed is QL is the only mostly used forum in Qatar (not only from Qatar but from all around the globe from where ppl are moving to Qatar).

of course there are helpful, healthy and advisory discussions but some forums have really hijacked ppl to continuously post on that. i've found dating forums to be more famous. looks like ppl are quite desperate in Qatar :) sorry fellows.

as long as it's not such a nasty discussion that ppl can't bare i think there is no harm. at least ppl are enjoying their lives :)

i felt a bit upset by a couple of discussion and did mention this to qatari......am waiting to hear from him though.

QL has become like a punching bag for many and its sad.

even after repeatedly requesting members to respect one another while posting some refuse to do so.which in itself is disrespectful to the members and to QL.

its almost like it been decided that no one's opinions will be appreciated and if it doesnt go a particular way then start with the abuses.
