Something is seriously wrong here in Qatar. Why pay people base on nationality? It is absolute nonsense. Being white means better?

When the Americans and British cant offer proper protection for their citizens in their own countries what sort of protection can they provide for arab countries. Their only interest is in the regular supply of petrol does not break. Also they feed off the paranoia of the leaders between the countries.

The fact that most of the Arab countries are protected by the Americans and British to keep them safe from any possible attacks or destruction, plus the cost of living in Europe and Americas, the only way to attract them to work with them is by offering large amount of wages to make them leave their country to work for them. Compare to most Asian countries cost of living is quite cheap and Middle Eastern people seems to think the Asians cost of living is not as high as the Europe cost of living, so they just base the salary according to their Nationalities.

Just keep dancing, it will do you good!

The trend in outsourcing is slowly changing.

Companies are reverting to call centres in the UK due to "operational problems" mainly caused by language problems

That is what is meant by capitalism isnt it. squeeze the poor so that the rich can become richer.

Why would a western business outsource things to asia? Because those countries work cheaper. Same thing here, citizens from some countries work cheaper. As a businessman, you want the best employee you can get for the least money. Qatar business is the same as everywhere else, they have to make money. Best way to make money is keep expenses low and income high.

Are we having fun YET?

One saying I have always lived by (amongst many) is a poor workman blames his tools!!

yes the leaders/designers of the town planning etc may well have been western however the workers who carried out the work were Asian!!!

In my line of work experience is key, without experience there is not much chance of getting the high wages for which we all work.

To be honest yes I have seen bad western and asian expats, however something I have only come across in Qatar is the flagrant cheating/buying of qualifications as seen in some Asian workers here.

In the UK it is a sackable and to a certain extent illegal offence to lie about ones qualifications. If you are in a job under false pretences then you are worthless in many peoples eyes.

Oh and business man please stop saying c0ck, does that make you feel a better person to try and belittle others, not very professional or inteligent of you really is it?!

We came we saw we were Qatarized

when the westerners eat money they spread a little around others as well. The rest keeps it for themselves. THats why they are preferred.

Billions spent on getting the so called experts from the West to design the traffic infrastructure and town planning here in qatar and now the gov are turning to Asian (S'pore, M'sia and HK) to get it corrected! Wonder why?

Clearly there is more involved in differential pay rates than ability. There's the competition within an employee's domestic market, for one. If you want a German engineer, you need to offer a salary competitive with what engineers get paid in Germany. If you want an Indian engineer, same goes -- except that domestic rate is less than the German rate, so you can lure the Indian engineer here for less.

abc I completely agree. That is what I have just said.

As soon as their abilities to not make them worth it they will go.

What u say is s**t. I have seen many useless westerners and many asians worth a lot. It is discrimination. Everybody should be paid as per abilities . period.

They look at the country of origin based on their needs and employees experience. They then have to give the salary to entice the employee to work here.

Companies don't pay a higher salary because its fun its because as businessman explained the value of work they believe they will get in return.

By anonymous• 22 Feb 2007 13:54

Yes it is discrimination but for a reason. It is more expensive to employ an westerner. Yet people keep doing it. Why? Because they think it's fun? Because Qataris like throwing money down the toilet?

No. because they are worth the extra.

As soon as they aren't then they wouldn't be paid.

It is a free market in that sense.

And believe me having worked here I know which countries I would employ from

By stealth• 22 Feb 2007 13:51

Why should the employer look at the country of origin? That is discrimination no question about it.

You get paid on passport/nationality not skin colour.

So Black/Asian/White English people in the same place get the same salary - as happens where I work.

the salaries are to compete with our country of nationality.

If you looked at how much you got paid in proportion to how much houses are in our countries of origin then you would find that in those terms the English are quite poorly off.

Depends how you choose to look at something...

And Endricks if you really dislike Qatar - consider somewhere more in keeping with your viewpoints.
