public drunkenness

I read about the egyptian guy who was arrested for flirting with a police woman and being drunk in public. I believe he is now facing 40 lashes. Does anyone have any other stories or incidents they know about of other foreigners who were arrested for public drunkenness, and what the punishment was?

Wow, I might get drunk in public so I can be whipped...Ahmad, u make it sound enticing.....I like giggling :p At least I could have some juicy stories to tell people back home hey!

Where do the floggings take place?

Dont be a wuss 40 lashes isnt that bad its not a real medivil whip, its just a bunch of thin sticks put together like an oldschool broom and the movement is only with the elbow so the guy lashing you cant swing back his shoulder and really go for it, he just bend his arm and then axtends the elbow only like a 90degrees movement.

If your drunk enough just sleep through it, if not i seriously knwo guys who giggled through the process. Its not the Macbeth torture chamber experience people make it out to be. And you get lashed with clothes on so the majority dont even have marks that last more than a couple of days.

The real good part is that most people dont know this so if u do get caught and lashed then you can always make up a manly story of how it was gruesome and almost killed you but you survived it and lived to tell! I'd go on Oprah with that story!

What ever it would be, i just think that by respect and response to all advantages the culture brings to us, we shouldn't influence it with our alchool. If we are to drink, i think it should be in our very private situation, or in gathering of people with same convictions.

What ever you do just don't get cought ...

I have observed check points around the corniche area a couple of times around 1a.m and 3.30 a.m where they ask for driving license and registration. If they ask you the qustion it is prefereable to answer with the reality and spend a day in jail, pay a fine and have your sponser get you out of there. Chances are that by the time they alchool test (blood test) at the police station they won't be able to find anything because it took them too long to do the hole thing.

Peace ya'll

Okay, so it's kind of like, you can get drunk in your own home and in bars?

You can purchase alcohol and fines for public drunkedness depends on nationality or severity of the case. You won't get deported for stumbling out of the bar and into a taxi.

I am confused.

I'm not a Muslim, nor have I ever been to Qatar.

Is alcohol banned fullstop? Is it sold?

Is it only illegal to be drunk?

Lashes are for muslim persons as they are breaking Islamic laws. Fopr non-muslims fines,imprisoned and deported (depend upon the severity)
