Looking to Donate Computers- Any help?
Greetings Everyone!
Well, I was thinking about setting up a Charity for Donated Computers/monitors/cables to schools and hospitals in Asia
I don't know how to set this up exactly. My coworkers Wife had asked me to donate a PC from my company and I am more than glad to do so since we have tons of crap lying around.
If anyone has any experience doing this, or would like to get involved, Please let me know!
This is genuine btw, and any involvement has to be out of pure voluntary will!
Any and all Feedback appreciated! :)

Mohammed El-Khatib
NB: Make sure that you delete *all* personal data before donating your old hardware; in fact, it's probably best to reformat hard-drive and reinstall software to be on the safe side.
There have been instances of shipments of old computers being donated, and their hard-drives examined to recover personal data -- such as bank details from online banking, credit card details from online shopping transactions -- in order to commit fraud.
It's a very worthwhile and commendable thing to do, providing that it's a useful piece of kit, and providing that you take security precautions regarding stored data before donating.
It really isn't worthwhile donating really very old equipment though, because modern software won't be able to run on it, and they will just have to dispose of the equipment in whichever country it ends up in. This *can* cause a problem in the recipient countries, because the computers contain components with harmful chemicals, and it can lead to toxic pollution problems relating to their disposal.
Don't just fob people off with useless rubbish. Rule of thumb: if you wouldn't pass it on to, say, a younger member of your family for use with their studies, or to a friend who can't afford to replace a computer, then it's unlikely to be of any use to anyone in a developing country either.
Great work...Keep it up...
I think the cost and effort of shipping & transporting it may cost almost same as the value of the product in the market. (old pcs cost really cheap)
There are so many people here (from asian & other nationality who could benefit from it) so may be you may not have to ship.
You could do the good work here.
When you are In your home country you could do the same thing there.
because if you ship these things then you would be spending more ...that is my opinion ...and you dont have to take it...but I would like you to think about it.
The Safe House “Mitery Kunja” is a temporary safe place newly generated, in association with Nepalese Embassy and community of Mitery Club, for men who are abandoned by their sponsors with no salary payment, nowhere to live, no transportation and no legal or financial means of leaving the country to return to their home.
The Safe House "Mitery Kunja" hopes to be able to house over 150 displaced workers—and with your help, their basic needs could be met!
We are expecting more support from you to our abandoned people. Now we have more then 70 people in our camp "The Safe House". I'm really grateful to you for the understanding and the help that you are trying to offer to the people in the safe camp. Thank you for the sympathy.
There will always be some more human to whom we can give hope to. If there are people having heart like you, hope will always remain.
Should you require more information or wish to discuss the issue, please inform us without any obligation.

Its also good if you contact Bangladeshi school and provide them PC directly.
The point is that we can get grants from the goverment should I file for charity status.
I have been trying to reach RoTA regarding this problem of logistics and shipping!
I have a passion for helping people and for Computers.. so i thought, why not combine them both! :D
I will need help, but right now this I am at the planning stage.
If anyone is interested in helping out, I will be more than happy to arrange a meeting (a place with GOOD FOOD) to get this thing started. So, please email/call me if you want to get involved.

Dear Google, thanks for recommending Zindagi Trust for this donation, but its too expensive to send it to Pakistan. Its better to find the needy people here in Doha. i am sure that a lot of people need our attention here. For example i find an old man collecting Cold drink canes in National area, i just asked him about his total earning , 5 to 6 QR a day. Could you beleive people are working whole day to just get their food.
We have to search out the needy students belongs to poor families. All living in Doha are not Rich or can afford the computer for their kids, so can contact with schools to find such
For Pakistan: http://www.zindagitrust.org
A trusted site thats doing a great job in Pakistan.
Good job momo. Its a noble cause and each one of us who is capable MUST donate. Small amounts add to big numbers and play a vital role in someone kid's survival.
