Gardiner Theobald International

Hi All

I came from the UK to work with Gardiner Theobald International (GTI) seconded to Skyoryx JV at the New Doha International Airport.

As things were not going to well I decided to hand in my notice.  I have only been here just less than 3 months.

GTI sent me a Contract whilst I was in the UK.  I signed this and then I signed a Qatari contract which was suposed to be formality.  However, this changed my British Contract which I signed only days before.

Now I want to go home, GTI have now told me that they will not be paying my flight home as I have worked less than 6 months (my UK contract was for a 3 month probationary period which could be terminated by either party).  Apparently it is tough luck now that I signed the Qatari contract.

My manager signed a lease with a landlord for 2 years.  He is refusing to return my deposit if the landlord doesn't refund his.  I paid the deposit and one months rental to my manager.  It seems a bit double standard to say that I can sign a qatari contract and be held to that but because he signed a lease agreement with the landlord that I can't get my deposit back which I paid to him.  I didn't have RP when he signed.

I went to the labour department and only then did he agree to pay me for the additional hours through Ramadan.  We were not given a choice but were told this would be the case.  We were even made to work two days at Eid.  We were given one day off.  However on that ocassion we were told that we would have these added to our holiday entitlement.

Now they are going to deduct the gratuity payment, not honour holiday entitlement, etc.

Do I have one of the worst employers.  Who said the British don't screw their own!!

I am no legal expert but you may have a case against the UK company in the UK if you still have the original signed contract.
