Post in Qatar

Hi everyone,

Hope someone can advise me... I'm at my wits end with QPost. I ordered two very expensive books from the UK, each from different online bookstores, in order to complete an academic study. The books were sent standard air mail.

Over three weeks later, the books have not arrived. Two simple letters from my family in the UK have not arrived either - again, they were posted 3 weeks ago.

In fact, not a single item of mail has reached me since I got here. Yet when I posted a gift to a friend in the UK, it took only 4 days to get there from Qatar.

Can anyone explain why mail takes so long? I have my address as my workplace, and my PO Box details are correct. When I called QPost they were useless.

Any ideas/advice?

Thanks everyone
Andy

Hi,

I sent my documents(certificates) from Qpost via Mumtaz post to India on 26th June 2016. But till now the documents did not reach at destination and it is untraceable. Both Indian post & Qpost never respond properly. Seems, my consignment lost. Please advise me where I should file case against this loss.

Regards,

My first hand experience with Aramex is pure pain and frustration. OVER PRICED and TERRIBLE customer service!

Borderlinx - THIEVES! I bought expensive cosmetics and DID NOT request them to be repacked, but that is exactly what they did. They repacked them and mysteriously 2 of the 6 items disappeared. They then had the audacity to claim it was not repacked. I asked, how did your marketing brochure get in the bottom of my package if it wasn't opened. No answer... hmmm!

The best option from the USA to Qatar is American eBox. I have never had an issue with them. Good customer service, low shipping costs (No Hidden Charges!!!), TRUSTWORTHY!!!

I cannot believe this!!!!

The mail I have been expecting from Hong Kong (since Sep '09) has finally arrived (in April '10)!!!

In all, it's only taken 7.5 months for an A5 letter that was posted using "registered air-mail" to arrive in Qatar

This beats the last record of 6.5 weeks for an air-mail from Australia!!!

Thank you QPost for your super-fast and efficient service.... NOT!!!

May be this is Qatar Post policy not to release the letters before the deadline date of 30 days :-). no other choice but to live with it. if the mails are urgent I couldn't help using expensive DHL/FedEx/UPS service for nearly $40 - $90..bahhh :-(.

and Qatar Air (and other airlines) has daily direct flights from Hong Kong to Doha... and the flying time is 7 hours and 40 minutes....

and it takes exactly 4 weeks or 30 days for the air mail letter, size of wallet from Hong Kong to reach me. since this is the usual time frame, i plan my dates accordingly to visit the post office. :-)

Well, I am happy to report that, after 6.5 weeks worth of wait, the package I have been anticipating from Australia has finally arrived!!!!

And the package (the size of a wallet) was send via Air-mail I might add.

This has to be the longest wait I have ever waited!.....

... but wait, there's more, cos the letter I have been expecting from Hong Kong (send on 11 Sep 09 by registered air-mail) is still outstanding... the wait continues....

Its just strange where the problem lies. its so simple for a mail to reach the destination... the problem lies with QPost or the Customs??. dunno. till then i stick on with DHL and for small HK post Qpost is ok.

over the phone. You really need to go down to the post office and stand in front of them for quite a while. Otherwise they will not really look for your package. If you go in person and are polite they are often quite willing to look all over the building for you. They may even try to trace your package. Good luck.

Guess paying DHL QR88 (for 1kg) and Aramax QR70 are better than paying QPost 200-odd for someone to steal an empty PO box!

Having said that the small parcel I am expecting (from Hong Kong) is a mobile phone cover that only costs QR1 + QR0.5 air-mail postage...

I love Aramex Shop & Ship. It's awesome and has made life much easier for me here in Qatar. Well worth $35, don't delay get yours today :)

PS. No I don't work for Aramex

I'm waiting for a small packet from UK also sent by a friend about 3 weeks ago. She did tell me that there is long delays even within the UK at the moment, so the prob my not be entirely due to QPost. I do use Aramex and they are good, but not tried DHL Easyshop...is that better?

This is picture is obviously NOT me, I don't smoke..

you aint alone fellow QLers... particularly anything sent by USPS never show up even after a month. thats why I always insist my sellers or sender to use DHL (cheaper when compared to UPS or Fedex). even i dont mind paying extra for the shipment, atleast receiving it is assured. and for online shopping use the DHL easyshop or Aramex shop n Ship.

only for cheap chinese stuffs I take a risk of using Qpost mailbox, surprisingly they show up after a month (small packets), after inspection.....

so my suggestion for online shopping, always use DHL or aramex service. or dont mind paying for DHL on ebay.

Yike! Sounds like QLost Guaranteed!

It begs to wonder why consumers are forced to pay for something (i.e. P.O. Box) we don't get to use (or receive)...

Welcome to Qatar... or not really, seeing your mail/parcels will never arrive.

I've had several things never arrive. Stuff coming from the US has been particularly problematic. Letters seem to be reasonably quick, the problem is with parcels and could be either with customs delays or with QPost (or anywhere between the point of dispatch and your box).

Gosh, I thought China was bad in trying to keep the rest of the World out; but I think Qatar tops it all!

I, too, am at the mercy of QPost as I have been waiting for a letter from Hong Kong, and a small parcel from Australia for over a month! Both are send via tracked-register Air-mail and according to the online system, they have left the respective countries.

I checked with GPO and they have not been helpful at all - surprise, surprise.

Guess my question to you all is, "Will I ever receive my letter/parcel???"... in my lifetime??? If so, what's the average delivery timeframe?

Cheers,

I've sent my friend a small parcel and it took 4 months before he got hold of it. He tried calling QPost but to no avail, they cannot even answer his queries. In the end, my friend went to QPost and picked up the parcel personally. Turned out it has been stocked up somewhere in their office.

It takes time, cause I remember I waited for my Grad photos..and finally called up my Uni and reordered another set after a patient wait. Finally after 2 months the originals arrive!!

Lucky for me the photo studio was kind enough to cancel my order.

posts take time to arrive, and apart from that, they also end up in a different post box, it happens all the time even if the P.O. Box # is correct, somehow, they still manage to misplace it....

Sunshine, did your mail ever get to Qatar? I had mail sent from the U.S. over three weeks ago and I am still waiting. It is an important item also. I will also always get a tracking number. Maybe it is better to FedEx it also.

I've mailed my husband an envelope on the 25th of November 2008 (LAST MONTH) and its the 17th of December now and he hasn't received it. I'm from Canada and I believe that the postal service is extremely poor in Qatar. I'm really worried right now and I hope that my mail isn't lost : (. I am glad to know that the service is slow there, since I do have some hope now after reading a few of your comments regarding slow postage. I hope my mail isn't lost............... After this experience I will be getting a tracking number each time I mail ANYTHING to my husband..... I just hope that it gets there soon, its been more than 3 weeks now.......

Reckless.... aaaaargh, I know - the Ramadan/Eid effect.... we are waiting for a shipment of personal effects, which (all things being normal) might have been arriving around mid-Oct.... we aren't going to hold our breath...

alicat - In a discussion we had the other week we came to EXACTLY the same conclusion! lol...

With Ramadan working hours this is my theory - Qpost sort the top of the post pile then leave for the day - then new post comes in on top of that pile and well you guessed it the stuff at the bottom of that pile could be there for days, weeks, months!!!!!

Post to and from Qatar is much faster than it used to be - you should know by now if you live in this country you have to be patient!!!!!!

LOL, you are complaining about slow mail delivery ?? Wait until it is Eid time ..

With all the greetings and gifts pouring in, QPOST will be backlogged by about a month or so.

And now as it is Ramadan, QPost has reduced working hours which is adding to the already substantial backlog and adding to everyones woes.

I dont think it will be the problem with QPost. If a mail thats send from Qatar takes a long time then I think one can blame Qpost. But if it is the other way round its no use blaming qpost( well most of the time that is). There have been instances of mails from Europe / States going to UAE and then coming to Qatar. If you have used the company post box then its hard luck. There will also be delay in going and pickeing up the mail. Also if the no. of letters to a company fill up the box then they keep it separately. Better have your own box and see the difference.

Post is very slow in arriving but you should have got it by now. Are you sure the problem is not with your company. I have been receiving post from the UK. Got two letters today. They were sent from the UK 10 days ago but have sat in our company's post room for the last two days.

Well, I placed two separate orders, totalling 60GBP. I opted for standard airmail as business airmail would have cost more than the books themselves!

Besides that, I ordered the books just after I got to Qatar. I didn't expect the postal service to be so poor...

Yes, you pick up your mail and packages from the Aramex office subject to a customs inspection first.

I once had a package arrive 4 months late through Qatar Post. Mail leaving Qatar arrives at its destination quickly but mail arriving here is very slow.

I don't understand how you could buy what you say are very expensive books and then have them shipped normal airmail.

So the Aramex mail will get sent to an Aramex office in Doha, rather than the Post Office? Is that right?

Use Aramex Shop & Ship, it will give you two mailboxes, one in the US and one in UK, and mail will get from there to Qatar within 4-8 days max. And it's not that expensive. Well worth the money for me!

I also have found postage to Qatar to be *horrendously* slow... unfortunately I have no advice except to wait, or start the process of claiming insurance (if that's an option)...

My recent experience:

On 09 Aug a friend sent a parcel from the Netherlands via "Airmail Priority"... it arrived on 06 Sep.

I am still waiting for a package sent from the US on 16 Aug vie USPS standard... also still waiting for another package sent from the US on 19 Aug (not sure of method but probably "standard" international airmail...?)... I am not holding my breath.

Mail delivery times to Qatar are *really* bad... hopefully your books will still arrive (eventually!)... and hopefully within a time frame to still be useful...

Good luck. Sorry this isn't more helpful - just letting you know it's NOT an isolated incident.

Cheers
