Some things are expensive, some things are cheap. It probably balances out.
Fish, seafood and eating out are very cheap. You can also probably afford to have a servant. Nurseries start from around a 1000 riyals. School fees are a lot cheaper than the equivalent private school in my country, the UK, and are filled with eager motivated children.
Supermarket products are probably as expensive as most Western countries. Alcohol is expensive, especially in hotels.
You probably need at least 15,000 riyals to get a half decent second hard car, and if you want a 4x4, figure on at least twice that. On the other hand, fuel, maintenance and insurance are all cheap. Petrol is less than a riyal a litre.
Personally, I have a much higer standard of living than I could on the same salary in the U.K.
