Yes! A new newspaper in town! We had to catch the moment on such occasion [Qatar Independence Day - Sept. 3) but from Monday, more people will get to see it, check it and read it since Sunday is a holiday.

The new daily's plan to be different from other local dailies in Qatar, whether Arabic or English. The intention? well, to have deeper analysis and coverage on events, issues, affairs. You will see different stuff in it that had not been there in the other papers. But they will do their best to their best ability, capability and available space.

Since many people are not working, the paper should be availabe to people in major malls, super markets, petrol stations . . . In its first edition for the occasion, there is expected stories and coverage to affairs to developments in Qatar, but there is expected interesting coverage on interesting news coming up for the season.

Thats what I was told . . . We will see . . .

I went back to edit my thread earlier... but the damn thing didn't save... so have to add here....

Made a mix up with the age group that Tango has in his profile.... so not finding a Pakistani over the age of 36 at the paper either.....

And, most important.... if you are taking an interest in QT, please check out yesterdays Nation page, and take a read on the article on QAWS.... the sanctuary really is in dire straites and needs help urgently....

Take care....

Firstly, the paper is called the Qatar Tribune....

and secondly......

I am very curious as to who tango is...... you see, I work for this newspaper, and I am battling to find a Pakistani under 36 that works here with us, so, I am really interested to find out how you know so much about the newspaper without being directly involved with it..... ooohhhh, maybe you're undercover..... cool... our very own "spy feature"....lol....

So tango... if you would like to mail me on [email protected], and tell me the secret of your identity..... or.... maybe who your source is, lol.....

Take care

I was lucky enough to pick up a copy instantly upon entering lulu. Not only was I impressed by the content since it is considerabely better than the other 2 papers. I was surprised to find a big photo of my cousin used for an article about Hamad hospital (she's a doc holding a baby) YAY!

Sorry that you did not find a copy, but I was able to find some copies at the Sheraton Doha Hotel when I happened to be there. I guess all copies were gone . .. . you should be all right tomorrow, Monday . . . .

ciao!

Don't think I should tour Doha to find a newspaper.

Hope distribution improves, like you said.

Well . . . the goal is to be different from other papers . . .to the best ability, capability, resources and space possible and available.

It will not be only "the same Indian stories from the same wire services," there will be more. There will be coverage about all nationalities and communities in the country, not just Indians, Pakistanis, Philipinos, British and Americans. It should give more attention to good things local Qatari have to offer or can offer on the personal level from talents, work and things done in a unique different way - all with taking respect to all. There are other communities in Qatar. The editorials should/will be more interesting and many of it is from the work of the local team, not just copy paste from other papers worldwide.

Sure! when the water runs off, when someone barks, you need ears to listen . . . the papers will be doing its best in this regard . .

The first edition has already been distributed and maybe some places may have run out. However, since it is a holiday today, many institutions, government departments, schools, private sector companies may have it along with the Monday edition. But give it a shot and check it our for the coming days . . . and you may/will notice it has other stuff others did not have! It should not be only a place for or about official meetings only, it will not be just to make compliments or bluffing, but also to analyze things, bring attention to issues, raise awarensss on many issues and offer constructive criticism and that is another way of making compliments to people. No one is perfect though!

Do you think I am a fan of The New York Times? nop! but other papers are very good; like the Independent from UK, Daily Star from Lebanon, Asia Times from Hong Kong, Guardian from UK, El Mundo from Spain or Republica from Italy or the English version of the Russian Pravda or The Globe and Mail from Canada and so on !!

I saw the paper earlier today and it is worth checking .. . i liked some of the editorials and opinions which had some spicy taste to them . . also there was an interview on the Doha Debates

Take care you all . . . .

Well . . .i was able to find at the newspaper shelf at a nearby supermarket next to my home .. . maybe the Family Food Center has run out of it . . . Try other places though . . . there are some coffee shops they have it for other customers to read it as part of other papers and magazines they have . ..

The circulation should be better tomorrow, Monday, since it is no longer a holiday. If you really want a copy of it, you can go to the HQ of Al-Watan Daily newspaper on D-Ring road between the Midmac round about and Al-Mamoura intersection. Otherwise, many places should have it-beside the Monday edition-at many schools, government departments, universities and etc.

Looked for it @ Family Food Centre and a couple of other shops at Al Murgab but nowhere to be found.

It will be interesting to see it it prints news or the same as the other two English papers in town. Will it question problems or tell me the HH the Emir got another greeting from another ruler. Will it be afarid to ask questions or only quote press releases?

Will we get the same Indian stories from the same wire services? I hope for the best but I have little faith in a better product, only more of the same.

We need a paper that when the water goes off, they find the problem and keep on it till someone answers questions about why. When a Govt agency announces a crackdown on working hours, will anything change or will they only report the publicity, not the story?

I don't expect anything different, so I will save my money to see if they are different.
