Bringing back memories

Hi there, I lived in Doha a few years ago, well about 25 years ago to be honest. My dad worked on the supply ships for QGPC.
I was wondering if anything is around from my tine there.

We used to live off ring road c, just behind the tall GEMCO building and also near the Ramada hotel. I recall a shopping centre nearby called The Centre, it was in the shape of a big cross and sold everything from food to clothes and electrical goods.
I went to school at Doha English Speaking School and it had a theatre place nearby which had not long beeen opened.
We used to go to the Falcon club which was a social type club for workers and their families from QGPC, with a big pool and a large childrens play area behind.

These things may no longer exsist or my recolection of things may be a little distorted but if anyone can help me out....

Thanks

dweller,

I was on Rumailah as Chief from taking her over from OSA in1974 until 1977. I also sailed on the Shell Dolphin & Ruwais.

In between times I was on Halul Island as the Marine Rep. looking after the SBM's, work boats and pilot launches. The work hard, hot and dusty but they were good times.

If any one has any photo's of aforementione ships and could let me have a copy, I should be obliged.

Our daughter joined DESS in 1982.

Was your dad QGPC Offshore or QGPC Onshore?

The Falcon Club bar closed in 1983 and from then on it wasn't the same.

If your dad was Offshore, was he on the Rumailah?

The Centre closed down about 3 years back and is now Managed by Choitrams and is called MegaMart, you still have basically the same things, food, clothes, restaurant.

The DESS still stands in the same place, but the Doha Players was blown up by a car bomb about a year back.

The Falcon Club has been leveled for the asian games. or the village.

Welcome back to Qatar, if you are planning.
