As of today the sale of newspapers at traffic lights, roundabouts and in the streets in general has been banned.

Exactly!

So now they can stand where the cars will be moving faster (roadworks permitting)!

A new decision will now allow the sale of newspapers on the streets according to the following conditions:

Newsboys to stand on selected roads in a safe place 300 metres (yes, 300) from roundabouts and traffic lights (!)

Under deliberation is whether they will be allowed to sell newspapers in public places, at shopping centers, petrol stations and service areas.

Go figure.

My bad butterfly, I was referring moreso to the roundabouts. Agreed when it comes to the traffice lights, they're fine ;-)

I thought that stopping in the circle of the roundabout was a police (and anyone that vaguely knows them) entitlement.

function,I think if rules in roundabouts are followed, there should be four dead spots in them where vehicles should not pass. These spots are where people stop maybe to rest, pick up a passenger, buy a newspaper, conduct a business meeting ... beats me! Until now I haven't figured out how roundabouts work, lol.

Yeah give the guys a break at the end of the day they are providing a service we do not have to stop at a shop to get a paper and it has been done this way for ages and they don't get highly paid for it either!

funtion, just so you know, when you are on a red traffict light, you have to stop your car anyways.

I say it's about time. I've seen all these guys just walk into traffic thinking they have the right to stand in the middle of the street to peddle their wares. Sure it's a convenience, but only to you, not the rest of the vehicles you hold up while you haggle for a paper. And god forbid you want change back. Traffic is bad enough here, I'm glad to see folks taking measures to clean the congestion up.

If the papers still want their guys out there selling their papers, then set them up with proper newstands.

Now we need to ban people stopping & parking in the traffic circles. Why on earth do people stop IN the circles?!?!?

Oh, there was a guy from Bangladesh in the traffic lights near my home. He always had the sweetest smile and a warm good morning everyday for me. I feel really sorry for him now.

Butterfly, I don't know why but the newspapers were informed last night and today there were no newspaper sellers on the streets that I could see. Even the old guy at the Ramada lights is gone and he's been there forever. Their umbrellas, the rocks they use as weights, everything.

I'm sure we'll get an explanation tomorrow.

Some of these guys have been killed by guys driving too fast by the way.
