BOYCOTT EXPATWOMAN.COM

I in the past had joined expatwoman.com even though I am not a woman but thought it was an info site, so altruistically should not matter.

I recently posted a post for the first time as a result of some woman asking for advise because she was "Scared out her mind", http://www.expatwoman.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=edae3503f828ece320f627e85ccd03a7&threadid=14149 N.B. If you want to comment on it, you have to register first which might take a day or so so you make sure you are qualified to comment.

 I came to post as a result and gave advise and said that as the goal of this 'chat board' was to provide a link to this site as it will offer a more brad perspective of people's attitude than the 5/6 posts they get there.

 However, this was deleted. As a result of this and the fact that another user had commented that 2 of her posts had been deleted by  giving her email. I started a threrad called "Censorship" asking what is exactly allowed and commented that how I could have done something bad.

 These are their rules:

The ExpatWoman Information Board Rules have been set after discussion with our sponsors and local legal authorities. Safety, security, decency, cultural and commercial issues have been taken into account.

This is a free service. Please just follow a few simple rules, and do not post messages that are :

culturally or personally insulting or insensitive

contain bad language

promote social groups / activities *

attempt to meet others through posting messages on these boards

promote third party commercial interests**

damage the commerial interests of EWS

* social groups and activities can be promoted elsewhere on the site. Contact : [email protected]
** contact : [email protected]

This is an Information Board. Although we all enjoy exchanges about matters relevant to life in the UAE, please take controversial issues to other chatboards which operate under different policies.

Specifically, the Moderators seek to exclude :

• personal chat between individuals which does not make a useful contribution to the board ;
• articles from other media ;

The Moderators reserve the right to :

remove or edit posts, and ban users who behave inappropriately, without notice or explanation ;

pass on registration information to the local authorities.

Use of these boards assumes acceptance of the rules.

ExpatWoman Information Boards are offered as a service from EWS FZ llc. Dubai Media City.

Now... enjoy !

This CENSORSHIP thread was deleted again. I then set up on called RULES. Askingto clarify the rules. I asked what is allowed and commented how such an action could be interpreted as going against the rules. I could it "somehow see some level on my first thread by mentioning the name of another site" as this DAMAGES THEIR COMMERCIAL INTERESTS, but then again is any action mentioning to go to a mall, Palm Tree or a bar cos "they will not be visiting Expatwoman as they otherwise might"

Apparently giving the location of somewhere to go is fine, a website is not; giving your number is probably OK giving your email? NOOOO ... where is the sense of these people. There should be some context and situations by which it should not be allowed but the defintion of the rules are being used in such a strict context you do not know if they are appropriate or not.

 I finally mentioned, I wonder if this will be deleted again especially since I did not fell I had broken any rules. Within 30 minutes it had been deleted and have been subsiequently BANNED (maybe even reported to the LOCAL AUTHORITIES Oooooooooooohh)

Who knew the Gestapo and  KGB is alive and well and is now called EXPATWOMAN.

I guess they don't realise that the internet is about conversation! It's weird that they just banned you like that..I suppose they have the right to. But then you have the right to just not go there :)

Thanks, I knew they were pretty absurd but did not know whether it was the Qatar boards administrators trying to be a megalomaniac on the powers they possess, or whether it was the case throughout the EW country forums. Which one is your Dubai site?

On the topic of censorship, I see Syriana is playing in the cinemas, i'd be interested to know how much its been cut?

P.S. I am trully proud of my ban ... I got banned within 6 hours of my first post ... actually the one post out of the 4 that was not deleted i thought was the most controversial

I have had the very same thing on EW, They are an absolute joke the site is a sham. All they give a hoot about is their sponsors, which okay is fine....but what about all the posters that put the site where it is today? Well Mrs Dreary doesn't need us now as EW makes enough money thanky very muchly!

This was one of the reasond that a big group of Dubai residents and a few from qatar had their own web site set up. So we can chat about exactly what we like without the fear of the KGB or big brother watching. On there we are free to talk as inanely or as sensibly as we like, so we do not need the likes of the dreary's of the world hindering our fun.

I am banned too and am proud to be!

IMHO

:D

as I have been banned, i emailed the Adminsitrator, Gail asking a simple question ....

"please explain to me how I broke the rules so that they required deletion."

But apperently, they not only have the power to ban but they have the power to stop any activity from my IP address and appertly according [email protected], the mail was rejected because I had been BLACKLISTED (so i assume i would not be able to set an account again to ask)

And I thought I was being sarcastic when I said Gestapo!!

just like u, in the past i also on that EW chat board. Somehow they keep deleted my thread / posts without any explanation. Before the board was for expat to expat, somehow now i think run by the sponsor for profit of the board owner.

No ... they have no sense ... they don't like you to meet up with another expat through that board, they dont like you giving out your e-mail address there or setting up a meeting too. What a load of rubbish if the EW board saying they want to help another expat women to settle down.

No idea why ... Rant over ...

Yes ... i am banning/boycott-ing that board now. :-)
