Hai,

My self a paraglider pilot from india, currently working in Qatar, planning to do paragliding in Umzaid beach, where there is a chance for doing PG in sand dunes(ridge sorring). Now afternoon 15KMH constant wind from west/east.

You can fly up to 1 hrs if there is enough thermal.

You can find the exact location on Google Earth with the following key words :

"qatari paraglide"

Just go to this point when the wind blows ~10 kts from the East and you are 80% sure to meet some others paragliders.

(qatari, french, rumanian, ... fly this dune)

Hello everybody

I'm a paraglider who hasn't practiced paragliding since 10 years.

As I'm looking for an activity in Doha, I've purchased a paragliding gear and would like to learn soaring here in the dunes.

Is there a special rule here in Qatar, like licensing, etc ... ?

I would like to meet other people who used to fly to start slowly and safely in the desert ...

Please contact me at tlamblin/-a-t-/club.fr

Best regards

Tim

Hi Ahsan,

I am moving over to Doha in a couple of weeks, and I would like to bring my paragliding gear with me. Do you still fly in the dunes, under what conditions (heat, wind, etc.) ? What are the regulations ? I have a valid french license, would it be recognised by the authorities ?

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully we can meet and fly !

Krgds.

Are the people running the paragliding licenced?

There was a case of someone being towed behind a 4-wheel drive (is that paragliding?) near Umm Said (Mesaieed) and hitting the beach unexpectedly, hard and sustaining sever damage to his back. As I remember there were court proceedings against the individual doing the towing.

Yes there are some people flying in sand dunes. Dont have their contact. Used to go with an Australian guy but he was working for Asian games project and long gone.

I have flown there. I do go to desert a lot mainly because kids love it.

If you are interested, I can show you the place and may be we can fly togather. I can be reached at 5503159.

We are moving over in a couple of months and I have been reseaching flying possibilities myself. There is parachute jumping, general aviation and ballooning in the UAE. I don't know if there is even enough height in Qatar to launch for paragliding unless you use a powered machine like an ultralight.

Post any information you come across because I would be interested.
