Any air frieght recommendations, please?

We are having some trouble finding a reasonable air frieght company that will move our allowance of 500KG from London to Qatar within the budget allowed to us by QU (around 2500 USD). Is the allowance a reasonable? I did a look and see that London, in comparison with mainland Europe and the US, does seem to have ridiculous prices. Can anyone recommend a decent carrier please?

Yes, mainly books, and clothes, of course. I was under the impression I could arrange for it to be sent ahead of me, but I'll check this now apropos of what Dweller said.
I wanted to fly it out as I have a couple of friends who've had horror stories re land shipping.

Will your freight include work related material, mainly books i suppose?

Have you considered sea freight or transport by road?. It's much cheaper.
Unless times have changed, you may need your residence permit before you can import unless your sponsor can pull strings.
