xena> i wasnt being rude & im sorry if i came across that way...

People always make the mistake of calling house techno, its no biggy, i was pointing it out so the people who want info don't get mixed up.....

Everything else after & including I dont know how old you are? etc was directed at deano... I should have made that clearer so sorry if you got anoid, im not a rude person...

Loki> Thanks, we'r trying to improve the doha non existant nightlife & create a music scene like every other major city in the world...

Paul Mendez is in the studio working on an anthem for the night here in Doha which will be released on the Backlash Muzik(Global DJs) record label.

Cheers

So what's the best place to hang out if you're kinda thirtyish and don't like house or trance or whatever? I'd just like a place with good music, and where it's possible to meet people, talk, have a beer, dance or just relax. Any other tips on socializing would also be welcome.

PS: I'm new to Qatar, and this is my first post here, but as far as I can see people seem friendly and helpful on this forum.

Sounds uncannily like my situation, however seeing as my girlfriend is off trekking round Guatemala till the end of Feb and doesn't know I've been offered this, she could have a bit of a shock on her return!

All the best with it, might see you out there!

No homely accent I'm afraid - I'm originally from Kent but moved up north 3 years ago for a job in Kirkby. I can always put on a fake scouse accent just for you though!!

Hope it all works out well for you, are you going out on your own or do you know people out there?

Hey

I`m actually from Liverpool so will be good to hear a homely accent if you come out!

I had a weird recuritment process although very quick and easy.

I was approached by CLR Global a recruitment company in Peterborough. They found my CV on totaljobs.com They asked me if i was interested and i got some more details. The interview i had was via telephone with the manager out there and they offered me the job, although i was quite pushy about it! Had two conversations then asked if i was being offered it or not!

HR took about two weeks to sort it out.

Ive heard good things about it all though.

Moving from Warrington, so I reckon I'll hardly notice the difference between here and Doha! My potential role is Venue Transport Coordinator - the people who interviewed on Sunday have recommended me for the role and it needs to be approved by senior people now before HR get involved, although there won't be any further interviews. Is this similar to your recruitment process?

By JenM• 16 Feb 2006 03:05

hey

Of course i`ll let you know. i go out there on Sat and start work on Sunday so will be able to tell you some things soon.

I have been e-mailing a guy called Ali how has just gone out a few weeks ago and he`s telling me good things about induction etc.

your met at the airport and given two weeks accom free and get a food allowance.

I`m also going to be a venue manager have only had a brief job description but will heopfully find out more in teh next few days

Where would you be moving from?

Hi Jen,

Noticed you were moving out for the Games - I am considering an offer to do the same although won't be until March (if at all). I was hoping you might be able to provide a bit of info on your experiences in the first week or so - i.e whether you get looked after or just dumped in the job!

Thanks in advance,

Andy

There is no insulting to count your change and be sure they can't do any problem to you and if they think they are threating you then don't even worry cause they are hopless, count your change and if anything happen then report them and they will be terminated, defend your rights.

Both nights were playing some techno and rave, but the Tuesday night seemed to have more of Usher and the likes on the discs.....

There was no one on the dance floor on the Sunday night, but the Tuesday night you couldn't move for everyone dancing....

Ok... this was after 4 bottles of wine with supper and a couple of Southern Comforts on the rocks...... lol.....

But hey, I still remember the whole evening.......

Don't you mean that all the hotels have bars where you need to pay to get in?

By Mark• 6 Feb 2006 15:08
Mark

When I was there it was only hip hop/ R&B .... on a thursday night.

Pretty unfriendly bouncers though... I got change back from the bar after ordering drinks and when I counted it one of em came up and told me not to make trouble? :)

The Merweb Hotel on Al Sadd Street is where the night club "Cloudnyn" is situated. Been there twice..... The Sunday night was quite with few patrons and the music was not good, but went on the Tuesday night and it was hopping.... so pick your evenings.....

Hope this helps.....

Thanks mate. Are you going the the Bahrain GP (go Jensen)?

I guess i will be going to the Masters race in Doha, as i'm only arriving in Qatar 1st March.

Yeah im a definate f1 fan - go McLaren.

Mark is right in terms of ticket prices, and i think thats for the day price only.

Mark, i dont mind paloma, i went there last week for the first time. Im pretty new to Doha myself.

Let me know what your hear on Diplomatic CLub.

Check the gulfair site for package deals, I think the cheapest one is something like 1500 riyal (flight, transfer, ticket).

I think however that you were supposed to reserve that before feb 1st but you never know....

When it comes down to going out I guess the favorites are palomas bar (intercontinental hotel) and rydges bar (rydges hotel). A bit more upscale is the Pearl lounge (Marriot - members only for men) and the Admirals club (Ritz carlton - also members only I think). Another night club is cloud nine in a hotel but I forgot the name...).

Most of these places play a mix of arabic and western music. I think the Pearl and Sdmirals club attract a predominant arabic public and the palomas is more a mix. Rydges bar is mostly western...

I guess there are also bars at the Oasis and Ramada hotel, mostly for picking up hookers so I have heard ;)

Tonight there will be a party at the Diplomatic club with some foreign dj's... Ill have a look to see if it is any good.

Finaly there were some beach parties last year at the intercontinental but I heard rumours they cant do that anymore.

Thanks for your replies & emails people. Please keep them coming. I shall be arriving to start work on the 1st March, so hope to make contact with some of you soon.

Also, is anyone interested in F1? if so, who knows the ticket costs for the Bahrain GP & flight costs etc. Plus i understand there will be a Masters race in Qatar in April (Nigel Mansell etc), does anyone have any info on this.

You may want to be careful of unmarried people living together. Before we came to the country, we had to show a marriage license. I don't know for sure but it might be a problem.
