This surprised me, not that they are many gays in Pakistan but it is a good place to be gay. Wow!

---------------------

Where sex is available and relationships are difficult
By Mobeen Azhar
BBC World Service, Karachi

The 95-year-old guardian of musical form
Pakistan is not the kind of place that most people would associate with gay liberation. But some say the country is a great place to be gay - even describing the port city of Karachi as "a gay man's paradise".

Underground parties, group sex at shrines and "marriages of convenience" to members of the opposite sex are just some of the surprises that gay Pakistan has to offer. Under its veneer of strict social conformity, the country is bustling with same-sex activity.

Danyaal, as he's asked to be known, is a 50-something businessman who lives in an affluent part of Karachi, and uses his smartphone to organise Karachi's gay party scene.

"One of the first things I did online, maybe 12 years ago, was type in G - A - Y and hit search. Back then I found a group and made contact with 12 people in this city," he says.

"These days there are smartphone apps that use GPS to tell you how close you are to another gay person with an online profile. There are thousands of gay men online in Pakistan at any one time."

The party scene is big - so big, he jokes, that he rarely gets time to himself.

P.S All the numbers are from my mind or consider it an example:

One man can sleep with many (1,2,3,,,10 Depends) women, and you there is a chance to make them all pregnant that time.

While each woman can get pregnant once every 9 months (at least)

So the world needs more straight men that straight women to safe the human being.

going by how much one hears about them, they presumably exert quite a bit of influence..however, one also then must wonder about the level of acceptance they have from the mainstream..you still hear of attacks in the US/UK, societies which are well on the way to fully accepting it..it will never be fully legalized in the Middle East but they will look the other way for the most part as they do now..and while i do have a strong opinion on the practice itself; i rather not judge the person practicing it..live and let live works for me

In some cultures where there is segregation of boys and girls from early childhood, the boys end up being with boys because of unavailability of girls and then they end up liking it so when they do grow up and get married to women, they still continue doing this on the side.. But then in the west, there is no segregation whatsoever between sexes and women are freely available and yet there are gays there out of free choice.. So you can't really say what the reason is.

There are no more gays now than there was in the past, it's just that now they can actually be open about their sexuality in most places and are no longer forced into sham marriages or to live our their lives as spinsters and bachelors.

Do they exert influence? Well many artists, military leaders, writers, etc have been gay, perhaps having to lie about themselves pushed them into exceeding in other ways, so I would say that yes, there have been many influential ones.

There is currently a strong LGBT lobby in many countries pushing for equality, and they exert a lot of influence, that I personally believe is in the right direction, as they promote tolerance and equality.

History has recorded homosexuality from centuries but what is important to know is "How many of them are really Gay?" and how many of them are trying it just because they can't afford to have a women or they are afraid of their poor manhood? or they just want to try all possible options to make their little Johnny sleep well?

what is the psycology behind being a Gay? Is it bcos of the lack of interaction with women or its a manufacturing defect? :)

For instance fashion designer, hair stylist, interior designer, an English or Drama teacher.. My husband who is a teacher used to tell me that male English teachers or Drama teachers are mostly gay..

The article was being written for QL and to be picked by RIP :)

As all over the world, Homosexuality is on rise and its acceptance too and so is the case in Pakistan. In the metropolious cities in Pakistan the GAY parties are on rise and many media persons in Pakistan are gays.

But it will remain taboo.

In which religious persons used to come home to give private lessons to children about a particular religion and used to teach them read the Holy book and then ended up molesting those innocent kids.

Yeah I was surprised at the shrine bit, surely that is the place you would stay away from, but then again a lot of Catholic priests turned out to be gay so maybe that is where the action is.

I don't think the writer has changed much except the names of the boys and some personal details.. Even with the lesbian couple I am sure the names have been changed.. Other than that it sounds pretty resonable.. And I used to think its only around this part of the world this thing is going on but good to know that Pakistan is finally coming out of the closet.. Well done>

Interesting article. I find the bit about the goings on at the shrine a bit too much to fathom. I think the writer has used artistic license - especially in the story of the two boys.

Having said that, It is clear that gays are coming out and enjoying a more active social life in Pakistan.

My favourite bit of the story was the two boys caught in a field, the parents couldn't get the police to drop the case so they wanted the report to state he was the 'active one'......

yeah that is what they do.. Blame it on the Jews..

It is nice to see that my country has come this far and has become so sexually liberated.. I have not been to Pakistan for over two years now but the last time I was there I did notice some men who seemed a bit queer.. In any case, I don't suppose I am ever going to visit Pakistan ever again as long as I live so won't be able to witness this dramatic change myself..

Many same sex couples have left Pakistan to live in a more LGTB friendly counties like the UK and Canada.

Seems somebody was typing the word G-A-Y in Google and found this , lol :)

But i didn't get the message RC, what we have to do?

I think this case is the same in the conservative countries, G-A-Y-S or any other group will find a place to do whatever they want.
