Oil and Gas compared to other Engineering fields
Hi Guys and Ladies
Does the oil and gas sector pay more than the other areas of engineering in Qatar?
I'm a UK born Civil/Structural Engineer with an MEng in Civil Engineering. 7 years experience in different sectors including Highways, and now Oil and Gas. Going for CEng later this year so will look at opportunities in Middle East after. Would go with my future marriage partner.
What sort of package should I expect to be a good package for me to work in the Oil and Gas sector? And should I expect it to be any better than other sectors like highways or water, considering all that work for the WC 2022 to be done?
Here in the UK, in oil and gas, once you gain enough experience (around 5-6 years+), you can quite easily go into freelance contracting work, getting paid hourly where you can earn £100k pre tax, so bringing you down to around £65-70k. This is the equivalent of QR30k/month full package.
I'm wondering how UK freelance work would compare to Qatar tax free packages. Obviously, even if it's a little bit more than UK, then still it's the change of environment, lifestyle that is attracting, and not pure about the money.
Please advise.
Thanks
Thanks for your post.
But all offshore and onshore equipment and piping need to be supported by steel structures and foundations, which all need to be designed, and this is what I currently do in the oil and gas business as a civil/structural engineer in the UK.
And Qatar Petroleum and several other companies have job vacances for civil/structural engineers in the oil and gas division.
So I'm surprised you say they dont need civil engineers. Maybe you are referring to engineers working at the refinery, rather than at the design office.
Anyone else have an input?
Oil and Gas needs well services engineers, drilling engineers, offshore maintenence engineers, HSE personnel etc. And of course oil and gas pays the highest salary packages. USD 1000 to 2000 per day. Onshore working mechanical engineers get USD 750 to 1000 USD per day.
