A warning for those going to visit Kandy - Sri Lanka
We would like to warn those travelling to Kandy , Sri Lanka to avoid the Jewellery shop “Isini gems” . They initially appear professional and trustworthy, saying all the right things and they were very persuasive and providing what looked like the right papers. They told us there gems came from there own mines as such they guaranteed top quality. Also if we were not happy after our purchase they would give us a full refund. When we got home from our holiday we noticed the change of colour in the Safire purchased in there shop. We contacted the shop and they admitted the stone in our ring came from a dealer, not there mines and was of poor quality and had been treated. They offered us what they called a nice stone from there collection. We refused this replacement ring since it was not a replicate of our purchased ring. We requested a refund but was advised that we had to return our ring first, even though we had told them that the post here and there is very unreliable and this was there fold. They have used delaying tactics, saying that the manager was always unavailable. Now 4 Months on we still have no resolution and we feel that we need to warn everyone out there, as this has been a very expensive and horrible experience. Please warn as many people as possible NOT to shop at” Isinigems”.
PLS. REPORT THIS MATTER TO THE SRI LANKAN EMBASSY.
PLEASE.
Hope your experience, unfortunate as it is, will serve as a warning to others. And Mary Catherine is absolutely right with regards to receiving a government certificate. That said consumers must still be aware of fraudulent acts even with regards to the authenticity of these certificates. Hope you are duly compensated..all the best!
Any time I've bought stones in Sri Lanka including Kandy, I've been given a government issued certificate as to the quality of the stone.
If you were offered a forged government certificate - file a complaint with the Sri Lankan Gems Dept (or whatever it's called). I'm sure that department will act against fraud deals.
