The U.S. has contacted authorities in Hong Kong to seek the extradition of Edward Snowden,

Federal authorities have filed espionage charges against Snowden. Snowden has been charged with theft of government property, unauthorized communication, etc

A senior administration official said today that it would create problems for relations between the U.S. and Hong Kong if Hong Kong does not respond quickly to the request to extradite Snowden.

“If Hong Kong doesn’t act soon, it will complicate our bilateral relations and raise questions about Hong Kong’s commitment to the rule of law,” a senior official said.

The US government "predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home" by "openly declaring me guilty of treason," Snowden said in an online chat this week.

Charging Snowden with espionage is yet another effort to retaliate against those who criticize the overreach of US intelligence agencies under this administration,” the Government Accountability Project, said in a statement

And in another statement Saturday, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said: “The effort to find asylum for Edward Snowden must be intensified. What brave country will stand up for him, and recognize his service to humanity? Tell your governments to step forward. Step forward and stand with Snowden.”

My understanding is that espionage means giving secret or classified information to the enemy. Since Snowden shared information with the American people, his indictment for espionage could reveal (or confirm) that the US Government views the citizens as the enemy - Ron Paul

US has played another card!! They have revoked Snowden's passport( for no justified reason) that makes his travels illegal. US is now trying to come up with an argument that any country that allows a person to travel without a valid passport status, is not following international protocol.

There are chances that he may finally proceed to Equador.

Hong Kong took the right stand and did not bow down to the great hypocrisy that the American democracy is. HK and its people deserve the support of all free thinking people around the world to stand against tyrants like the USA

"It's a shocker," said Simon Young, a law professor with Hong Kong University. The U.S. government will be fuming with rage."

China's news agency, referring to Snowden's accusations about the hacking of Chinese targets, said they were "clearly troubling signs". It added: "They demonstrate that the United States, which has long been trying to play innocent as a victim of cyber attacks, has turned out to be the biggest villain in our age."

It is unclear what Mr Snowden's final destination will be. There has been speculation about Ecuador and Iceland, while Russia's Interfax news agency quoted a source as saying there is a ticket in his name for a flight to Cuba.

What if Snowden & Assange have some terrorist links? Something tells me that these people are no angels & big money & powers are behind all this. Had it been done by a 'nobody', he would have landed on the electric chair by now.

A statement from the government did not identify the country, but the South China Morning Post, which has been in contact with Edward Snowden, reported that he was on a plane for Moscow, but that Russia was not his final destination.

I find it strange that all this while that while the americans have been accusing others of spying and dirty tricks they are the ones who have been doing this activities themselves and are now trying to silence the guys who are exposing their dirty deeds

Hong Kong Executive Council member Regina Ip said authorities can arrest Snowden if his actions qualify as a crime under Hong Kong law, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported early Sunday.

But if his actions are deemed to be political charges, she told Xinhua, then Snowden will not be extradited.

"We will work under the framework of Hong Kong law, and won't allow any illegal or unfair judgment," Hong Kong Secretary of Justice Rimsky Yuen told Xinhua.

China is also a bully as what they are doing in the Philippines and if they will not stand up, it only shows that they are afraid of the US.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Hong Kong has an extradition treaty with the USA. However, the process could be dragged out if China wished it.

They will probably allow Snowden to issue a few more exposes before sending him back.
