Big appetite but no money in the pocket
Anthony M. Malabehar finished a sumptuous meal that included crab, lobsters and dessert and then announced that he had no money to pay the $69.27 tab.
He was arrested, pleaded guilty and earlier this month was sentenced to three years in prison.
In delivering the prison term, the judge took into consideration that Malabehar, 47, of Mattoon, Ill., had 70 prior arrests. He also had been released from jail the day before his meal for not paying at another restaurant.
"He ordered a filet, snow crab, lobster pinches, snickers pie, two shots of rumple minz, and a Mike's hard lemonade," a spokeswoman for Alamo Steak House said.
But when the check came for $69.27, he refused to pay.
"He came up to the server and said 'Let me let you in on a secret, I don't have any money," she said. "So the server went to the manager, who called the police. The police informed the manager that this guy has been going all over town and eating at restaurants without paying."
Malabehar had been arrested once earlier this year on Feb. 2 for eating at a restaurant without paying, according to Illinois records.
Malabehar was arrested and charged with burglary, the report said. He pleaded guilty to theft on June 6.
Malabehar received the three-year sentence because of his prior convictions.
"Before this incident, Malabehar has been charged with either burglary or theft 13 times. He has been arrested approximately 70 times," Scales said.
"He never gave an explanation," Scales said. "But what concerned us is that he had served two months in jail for the February theft and then, one day after being released, he did it again."

Hey Brit, there is nothing in this world which you want so badly & can't get.......unless the idea is to land up in prison somehow and the high priced menu is more likely to compel the owner of the restaurant to call police.
Agree with Brit and Knight returns
What brit said is right. He is lazy and looks to go back to prison again and again for two square meals a day...a happy jail bird.
Or
It seems that he has a Class A taste,, and he can't afford the type of food that he likes, and he would do whatever to have a meal ,, even if the price is going to jail.
"He ordered a filet, snow crab, lobster pinches, snickers pie, two shots of rumple minz, and a Mike's hard lemonade,"
It is obvious that he is unable to survive outside and looks for a reason to be imprisoned..
sun, Seems he craves all exotic sea-food like snow crab and lobsters....I am afraid he may never learn to cook these dishes even being a chef in prison for years..:(
Hahaha......had I been the judge , I would give him the job of a cook in the prison, so that not only he will earn good money when he gets out of the prison , but also can take care of his own gastronomical cravings.....
Looking at his past deeds its high time judges understood that sentencing him a jail term wouldn't change him for good. Because he would still be happy in prison having 2 meals a day free.
Tough community service with minimal salary for one month is the right punishment.
Now he is in jail where he will get free food, while the poor that have no job and do not steal struggle to survive on handouts in America. How ironic.
We should call him the Hungry High-class thief
It sounds crazy by the way, does it worth staying in Jail for a dinner !!!
I think they should found him a job in a restaurant, and the 3 meals are included in the salary!
