Snooping on its own people
US collecting phone records of millions of Americans, White House defends action
The White House defended the government's need to collect telephone records of American citizens, calling such information "a critical tool in protecting the nation from terrorist threats", after a British newspaper reported that the United States has been collecting the telephone records of millions of Americans
The newspaper said the document, a copy of which it had obtained, shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens were being collected indiscriminately and in bulk, regardless of whether they were suspected of any wrongdoing.
The order was granted by the secret foreign intelligence surveillance court on April 25 and is good until July 19, the newspaper reported. The order requires Verizon, one of America's largest telecommunications companies, on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the national security agency information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

If they are doing it for real, and obviously spending a lot of money on this, why we see no results, the "terrorist" acts still happening right there.

If i were an American citizen, i won't be afraid
All what they got is
Silly conservations ended up with, "I love you baby" or "I love you too" (depends who started) :O)
Internet spying: Britain getting data from US agency
The UK has been secretly gathering communications data from American internet giants with the help of fellow spooks at the US national security agency, Guardian newspaper reported on Friday,
Guardian said it had seen documents showing how the British signals intelligence agency GCHQ has had access to America's "PRISM" electronic eavesdropping system since at least June 2010, adding that the data had generated nearly 200 intelligence reports over the past year.

Leaked secret documents reveal U.S. agencies are tapping directly into servers of Facebook, Apple and Google to snoop on users
Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Skype, AOL and PalTalk are involved in spying program
No mention of QL yet !
Well, what ever it is they are doing, it does not seem to work that well.
James Clapper, the director of US national intelligence, has reacted sharply after leaked documents revealed information about two top-secret intelligence-gathering programmes.
In an unusual statement late on Thursday, Clapper called disclosure of the internet surveillance program "reprehensible" and said the leak about the phone record collecting could cause long-lasting and irreversible harm to the nation's ability to respond to threats.

"And if someone is not doing anything wrong, which is otherwise expected of it, why should it worry. I wouldn't be worried at all.:
Sadly, this is the mantra used by the securitati. It is not a question of innocence. It is a matter of privacy and personal freedoms.
...The newspaper reported that the US National Security Agency and the FBI are "tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading US Internet companies" and extracting massive amounts of data including audio, video, photographs, emails, documents and connection logs.
It named nine companies, including Apple, Facebook, Microsoft Corp and Google Inc, as having joined the secret program.

part 2
Keeping in view their systems in place in case of wrongful use of such information against an individual it is lesser of a worry than any other country say India where such information would for sure be used by the interested parties in connivance to make money or to settle personal vendetta without recourse or any other wrongful purpose except for the purpose it would get created in first place.
part 1
With threats coming from all over I don't see what is the problem as they don't listen to individual peoples conversations unless they become suspect of anyone. In fact it may not be actually possible to listen to each individuals conversations. Guess all in the interest of its citizens from attacks and the country becoming target for attacks from many fronts for whatever reason. And if someone is not doing anything wrong, which is otherwise expected of it, why should it worry. I wouldn't be worried at all.
The National Security Agency and FBI are tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading U.S. internet companies, extracting audio, video, photographs, emails, documents and connection logs that enable analysts to track a person’s movements and contacts over time.
The highly classified program, code-named PRISM, has not been disclosed publicly before. Its establishment in 2007 and six years of exponential growth took place beneath the surface of a roiling debate over the boundaries of surveillance and privacy.
came from the very same people being snooped in! Only in America!
looks like they are getting deeper into the mess of their own creation. The bad things and deeds that they have done in places like Japan, Vietnam, etc is now returning to haunt them and its no wonder that they are always suspicious and even ladies in saris and guys with pressure cookers scare them
are doing just this:keeping tabs on their subjects. Some do so openly and some just under wraps. And modern technology seems to be working to their advantage as well!
The end justifies the means.. too much risk is at stake here.. I believed it is only just!!! FYI, they don't care about your privacy as long you're a possible treat to national security and they will dealt with accordingly.. This what we call mitigating measure to counter terrorism. Sound paranoia but is it a fact!
I think the Nordic countries do not do this.
The point here is not that the NSA is doing this, but the fact that it is being done covertly and without due cause.
Which country does not do this ?
paranoia?
The nation seems to be scared of its own people. Well its the karma, the dirty deeds done around the world return to haunt them ever so often
