Beirut - A video of a Syrian rebel commander cutting the heart out of a soldier and biting into is emblematic of a civil war that has rapidly descended into sectarian hatred and revenge killings, Human Rights Watch said on Monday.

The New York-based group said an amateur video posted on the Internet on Sunday shows Abu Sakkar, a founder of the rebel Farouq Brigade who is well known to journalists as an insurgent from Homs, cutting into the torso of a dead soldier.

“The mutilation of the bodies of enemies is a war crime. But the even more serious issue is the very rapid descent into sectarian rhetoric and violence,” said Bouckaert.

He said that in the unedited version of the film, Abu Sakkar instructs his men to “slaughter the Alawites and take their hearts out to eat them”, before biting into the heart.

Abu Sakkar has been seen in previous videos firing rockets at Lebanese Shi'a villages on the border and posing with the body of a soldier purportedly from the Lebanese Shi'a militant Hezbollah group, which is helping Assad's forces.

Please excuse UkEngQatar.. He was under the impression - like many others - that The West was providing covert support in arms, but overt support in logistics and commmunications..

He also assumed that The West has not initiated a no fly zone yet because they haven't found the right excuse yet. They tried the chemical weapon thingy, but it turned out that the rebels used them :O(

There is hope still..

And who told you that the west is supporting them ?? or you just saw that in Media ?? again you do not use your brains !

if they are supported by west or any other countries, they would win within 1 month, same as what happened in Libya, it took them 7 months to win.

See, they are not waiting any supporting from any one, they have the God with them, do not worry about them, I met many ppl of them and they are happier than any one, at least they have the freedom they wanted and they are not regretting at all, because all the world controlled by USA except them, they are totally free, unlike you guys, they are the only ppl who are free on the earth, and they enjoying it !

A Syrian friend Just saw that youtube video, and he was saying : who said this is one of the rebels ?!!! he is one of Assad army but trying to make those videos to show the world what those rebels are doing !!! its a fake video made by Assad supporters.

because my friend is Syrian, so he could make out which part of Syria this fighter is from, they know each other as every one knows his country very well and could differentiate between the accents.

so this video was created by Assad and his gangs to let all the world blame rebels and stop giving them weapons.

please, do Not believe what ever you see, please THINK before you blindly believe, use ur brain which you are gifted with.

You know common people have very less to do with politics. The only thing they want is to live. Both the regime & the rebels are making hell out of people's life. But such kind of wars are unavoidable in our world because every human being is so selfish, so insecure & so greedy. Nobody wants to let go.

brit ,, "You hate Assad, yet you want to kill all Alawites" .

Hating Al Assad is a thing and killing alawites is something else.

but i think people mixed it up, that's because Al Assad is Alawi so it is normal that "Alawites" are supporting him.

Isn't it simple?,,, People don't want their president anymore,, aren't they free to choose, where is democracy? why to turn the battle to a "Sectarian" one?

thanks new in-qatar ,

fact doesn't need too much support , since it is obvious same like the sun ,

president want to continue ruling on bones and bloods of his inhabitants ,

when they said we need freedom , reforming , he faced them by haters and weapons .. and promote him self as crazy and don't know what happening in Syria and every thing done by his hands ..

we will win for sure cuz the majority don't like him , and the majority injured from him ..

Damascus is the oldest capital ever, been alive 7000 years, they went through much worst wars, but won at the end, and they gonna win this time as well, coz Assad is nothing when you look to Syria as a civilisation, as a culture, its much bigger than him !

You know that Salah Aldien was born in Syria ? and know that Khalied ben Alwalied was in Syria, you know that 300 of our prophet‘s friends in Syria, you know that almost 20 prophets are buried in Damascuse, you know that Qabeel ( the son of Adam ) is buried in Damascus !! you know that Hercules came into Syrian to fight there and died there !!

so, Assad means nothing to Syria man...

By New-in-qatar• 14 May 2013 11:02
New-in-qatar

Syria Man, I support you with what you are saying, and we are always pray for you and Syrians, and do not worry, some day you will win the war, even the whole world against you ! you know why ??? because you have the GOD with you Inshallah !! and do not be sad about the ppl who died in this war, you know why ? because they are happier than us at the moment, they are in paradise inshallah, they are Shahid inshallah, nobody here knows what does it mean, but it means a lot to us (muslims), and I really wish to be one of those ppl who died !!! even the lived very bad last moments , but the so much happy now in Paradise Inshallah.

Please, if you are not Syrian, do not judge !! because you cant feel what Asaad is doing with his people, he is killing them , burning them, he has been ruling 40 years with his father, so they the right to change him, he is trying ti hide what is he is doing, BUT, do u know what the whole world is afraid of him ???? because he has so many rockets which can be shot on Israel, which the whole world dont want to !!! he is threatening them, thats why all of ppl keeping silent, and the majority of Syrians hate him, but he is staying there by force, as USA promised him you protect Israel, we will protect you forever !!!

So, thats the case there.

One day a neighbour's dog took a dump at my other neighbour's lawn. The next day, that dog died of food poisoning... the other neighbour killed the dog but I didn't see him eating the poor mutt's heart.

Anyway, when a person is ravaged by war, it is impossible to not be psychologically & emotionally damaged ... that person simply unable to know when too much is too much.

That said rebel... Well I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up eating the heart of a poor kitty just because it pee'd in his shoes.

see you can rule country by using forces against bare weapons millions of peoples .. Assad only has weapon , Syria now semi country cuz of his weapon

Dears the picture not complete for most of you .. read the headlines :

1- Syria is a republic country which mean president should be changed every 4/5/6 years not 14 years and his father 40 years before , and they change the constitution as their benefits .

they change the republic country to kingdom >>

2- Assad regime promote him self as reformer regime and in the actual life , the are gangs rolling the country ..

3- from the binning they faced the legal demonstration by tanks & rockets and arm-forces // what kind of regime that kill 100 k peoples until now and refuges 4 mio

4- most of the videos coming from there are regime made !

they kill and distribute to media that they are victims

We have term called as "Gulu" which means going very extreme which is absolutely not Islamic. Islam teaches a simple, moderate and consistent life. Even if you are on a battle field you are not suppose to eat each other..oh such a cannibalism was never seen in Islamic History by Muslims..of course Non Muslim Arabs have done such cruel acts like making a necklace of other's body parts and intend to drink wine on enemies skull.. pork & wine becomes halal in some survival situations but not human meat...never
