Is it right to mock the dead ?

An online anti-Margaret Thatcher campaign failed to get the song ‘Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead’ to the top of the official UK singles chart on Sunday evening, instead reaching the number two slot.

However, the song topped the UK iTunes chart for online downloads.

A spokewman said "I think there's a large part of the population that finds it disrespectful but then on the other hand you have a part of society which has decided to demonstrate in this way."

Is it right to mock a former leader in such a way ? Would any other country allow this to happen ?

they do have a right to do whatever they're doing, but i don't think it's right. it's disrespectful and it reeks of either bad taste, breeding, or upbringing.

they should've done that when she was alive. would've been fun to see how the iron lady could have responded. i saw some clips on youtube and arguing with her seems pretty scary. they would be no match for her.

Mocking the dead people is better the mocking the living ones

Any way no one can please everybody and for sure she wasn't perfect like any human being.

But she will remain "The Iron Lady" :)

discussion with few of Brits in my office and like this QL thread there were different opnion.

Few terming them as pathetic, some said freedom of expression and a couple of them supported it.

To me, it is shame/illogical to celebrate, mock and party at one's death.

its not right, must definately respect the family and friends and give them privacy to mourn their loved one whether we agreed or disagreed with the decisions they made while alive.

Shows what some Brits are like....

As Mimi, I an for free speech, I do not agree, but support their right to do it.

In the end, it only makes those people look pretty bad.

Agree with Thelonius, yes public will live with their opinion but the corrector will remain same as it is, it's impossible to keep change according to others wish, as sulieman said she will remain 'The Iron Lady' until the end like Hitler,Caesar Or Osama Bin Laden, as many hates them only few follows them, but they never changed till their last breath!

LOL Brit. That's the beauty of free speech isn't it. You don't have to agree with what everyone says or does, you just have to agree that they have the right to do it.

Do I look down on the people mocking her in death and feel sorry for her family, sure. But I'm not going to stop them from doing it.

At least some respect has to be show, but this activity is wrong for sure.

I disagreed with many of her policies and actually wrote to her office once - getting a reply from her secretary which I still have.

I tend to agree with Miss Mimi in believing that it seems cowardly to mock her after her death. On the other hand , I do support free speech and expression.

So, I'm confused I think :O(

I'm a little confused as to why they didn't put this much effort in to celebrate her leaving office. Surely, mocking her for her political decisions when she was alive and could defend herself makes far more sense than mocking the dead. That's just a bit cowardly.

I think this would only happen in the UK. We are too cynical of our leaders.

Just imagine what Tony Blair might be thinking of about him. :)

She did not serve the country. I mean she did not serve the whole country.

I agree that the dead don't care. My point was regarding a former leader who served the country.
