Dror Moreh filmed more than 70 hours of interviews with six former chiefs of Israel's shadowy Shin Bet secret service agency.
The result, The Gatekeepers, a 97-minute documentary which has just opened in the UK, is indeed explosive. The Oscar-nominated film has played to packed audiences in Israel, many of whom emerged stunned at what they had seen and heard.
The recollections and reflections of the former chiefs weave a riveting narrative of Shin Bet's activities throughout Israel's 46-year occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.
But the punch comes from their conclusions. "We are making lives unbearable," says Carmi Gillon; "We have become cruel," says Avraham Shalom; "You can't make peace using military means," says Avi Dichter; "We win every battle, but we lose the war," says Ami Ayalon.
You don't have to destroy in order to build.
Honestly I don't they've ever REALLY tried to settle it in a peaceful way. It doesn't count as a peaceful way when you're hiding loaded guns behind your back waiting to shoot the other person if they blink.
Agree to Miss Mimi and also agree to sulieman :)
Miss mimi ,, Do you have other options ?
How many times they tired to solve the situation there in a peaceful way, it is not working.
Israel thinks that Palestine belong to them and nothing could send them away but by war.
I agree with them, and it applies to both sides of the conflict. Violence only begets more violence, it doesn't solve anything and it will never bring peace or happiness.
