A growing wave of anti-Muslim activities in Sri Lanka is being carried out by new hardline Buddhist groups, a trend that is making many people anxious, even fearful.

It comes four years after the army in this mainly Sinhalese Buddhist country defeated Tamil separatists.

You can say that again..Seriously the country is still recovering from the age long civil war that wreck havoc on many of our lives, and scarred us all in some way or the other.

Let's hope and pray the power-hungry,warmongering crazies, extremists and haters don't win any rounds this time!

A group of them, fueled and funded by some corrupt politicians and other nefarious individuals, have indeed strayed away from their religions teachings and are trying their utter best to create interracial and interfaith conflicts. The Halal issue is only one of their strategies that thankfully seems have failed.

So far only ones to take the bait appears to be extremists and ignorant folks from both sides. Thankfully plenty of Lankans, from all faiths and races, are not only condemning their actions but going all out to ensure their attempts fail!

The words speak for themselves. "We, them, us". Is this the true thinking within this religion? I can't see it being so. I'm just going to throw it out there, are they really true Buddhists? Or has one or two strayed from the flock and made an issue out of a non-issue?

Before a certification is issues, various methods are used to ensure the samples / products are as per stipulated standard, in this case halal items are utilized. So to perform these checks one needs resources and experts specialized in it. Do you think these come for free? Do they not have to charger the vendors a nominal fee to cover cost? A little bit of rational thinking would help.

It's a conflict between a few Buddhist extremists & a few Muslim extremists . It appears some other parties are behind all these and they are striving to destroy the peace and unity among Muslims & Buddhists.

I heard that the government is really frustrating muslims there

1- banning hijab or cover for the head for women

2- preventing the athan ( call for prayer)

3- preventing the halal meat

If one actually reads a little, the issue is being blown out of proportion.

All that is happening is that the halal label will be removed from the products sold in the country.

a compromise and win / win for both
